CGS in Milano seeks a Short-term Trader & algo-developer for the Italian gas & power market. You will join the Power trading team to maximize profitability and manage risk through trading and logistics strategies.

The role covers short-term demand forecasts, intraday trading, gas portfolio optimization, development of automated trading tools, and XBID market strategy, with emphasis on data analysis and backtesting to drive positive P&L.

Competenze

• Bachelor's degree in economics, engineering, finance, or related field.
• 1 to 2 years of experience in power trading, logistics, or energy sector.
• Fluency in Italian and English (oral and written).
• Strong analytical and teamwork skills.
• Experience in programming and data analysis using Python and SQL.

Short-term Trader & algo-developer - Italian gas & power market

The role:

My client is looking for someone to join their Power trading team for the Italian market. The candidate will play a vital role in maximizing profitability and minimizing risk through efficient and effective trading and logistics strategies.

Responsibilities:

• Short-term demand forecasts
• Execute daily and within-day trading in the Italian Power market, including buying and selling power to capitalize on market fluctuations and optimize profitability
• Monitoring and optimisation of the gas customer portfolio, limiting risk within the established parameters
• Collaboration in regulatory monitoring and analysis of potential impacts, ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory frameworks and taking advantage of opportunities
• Supporting trading strategies with innovative tools and data analysis, backtesting, ecc.
• Apply gas trading insight to design, optimize and rethink automated trading tools
• Generate positive P&L and capture market opportunities based on analysis of market conditions
• Lead Algo-Trading Project in the Italian Power Market, with a specific focus on the Italian XBID market, including strategy design, implementation and operational supervision
• Forecast and control the market guarantees required in the Italian gas market, including balancing, transport capacity, storage capacity, and other regulatory requirements. Ensure compliance with market guarantee regulations and optimize financial performance.
• Programming and nomination of gas storage operations, participation in gas storage capacity auctions and identification of flexibility opportunities to improve the P&L of storage activities
• Support short-term trading and operational activities in the Italian power market

Qualifications:

• 1 to 2 years of experience in power trading, logistics, or a similar role within the energy industry.
• Bachelors degree in a relevant field such as economics, engineering, finance, or a related discipline
• Fluency in Italian and English (oral and written) is essential.
• High analytical and teamwork skills
• Experience in programming and data analysis, with working knowledge of Python and SQL
