Domyn in Milan is seeking a Junior AI Research Engineer to design and optimize the infrastructure for training and serving trillion-parameter models, covering pretraining, post-training, and deployment.

You will work across research and production, touching every layer of the stack and contributing to open-source projects shaping the European AI ecosystem. The role requires a Master’s degree and up to 2 years of relevant experience, with Python and ML frameworks as core skills.

Competenze

• Master’s Degree in Computer Science, AI or related field.
• Up to 2 years of proven experience as an AI research engineer or in similar roles.
• Hands-on experience with at least one modern ML framework (PyTorch, TensorFlow, or JAX). Familiarity with distributed training is a plus.
• Basic understanding of parallel computing and high-performance systems; exposure to CUDA or compiler optimization is a plus.
• Hands-on experience with ML model debugging tools such as TensorBoard and Weights & Biases; exposure to profiling tools like Nsight is a plus.
• Proficiency in Python and familiarity with C++ or Rust; exposure to AI inference or accelerators is a plus.
• Solid understanding of mathematics behind deep learning.
• Exposure to deploying models in production, optimizing latency, throughput, and memory.

Join our AI Research Team in Milan to build the next generation of large language models, across the full life cycle: pretraining on trillions of tokens, state-of-the-art post-training, and releases spanning from a few billion to hundreds of billions of parameters.

You’ll collaborate directly with leading industry labs like NVIDIA, and your work will ship into mission-critical deployments with some of the largest players in banking, defense, manufacturing, and the public sector.

You’ll have first-class access to our proprietary sovereign HPC, powered by NVIDIA Blackwell GPUs and designed for frontier-scale model training, alongside additional allocations on European HPC infrastructure.

As a Junior AI Research Engineer, you’ll sit at the intersection of research and production, designing and optimizing the infrastructure that trains and serves these models. Expect to touch every layer of the stack, and contribute to open-source projects shaping the European AI ecosystem.

What You Have

• Master’s Degree in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence or a related field.
• Up to 2 years of proven experience as an AI research engineer or in similar roles.
• Hands-on experience with at least one modern machine learning framework (e.g., PyTorch, TensorFlow, or JAX) through academic, research, or personal projects. Familiarity with distributed training concepts is a plus.
• Basic understanding of parallel computing concepts and high-performance systems. Exposure to CUDA programming, or compiler optimization is a plus.
• Hands-on experience with ML model debugging tools such as TensorBoard and Weights & Biases. Exposure to performance profiling tools (e.g., NVIDIA Nsight) is a plus.
• Proficiency in Python and familiarity with C++ or Rust. Exposure to AI inference, model optimization, or AI accelerators is a plus.
• Solid understanding of mathematics behind deep learning (linear algebra, probability, optimization).
• Exposure to deploying models in production, includingoptimizing for latency, throughput, and memory efficiency.

• Track record of publications at top-tier AI venues, reflecting a deep understanding of frontier research.
• Contributions to open-source AI projects, demonstrating systems-level thinking and impact in the research community.
• Familiarity with AI safety, alignment, or adversarial robustness techniques.
• Experience with low-precision training (FP8, FP4), quantization, pruning, or distillation at scale.

We offer a competitive salary, as well as an opportunity to receive company equity. The typical salary for this role ranges between € 30.000 and € 50.000. As you gain experience and make more significant contributions to the business, your compensation will be reviewed to match your impact. Additionally, depending on your seniority and your performance, you'll have the opportunity to receive stock options, with a variable value calculated from your base salary, giving you the chance to directly participate in the company’s success.

Employment terms are governed by the CCNL Commercio, the Italian National Collective Bargaining Agreement for the Commerce, Distribution and Services sector.
