Job description

Verdian is a European renewable energy platform dedicated to delivering clean energy and accelerating the energy transition. Our success is driven by talented people, entrepreneurial thinking, and a culture built on agility, flexibility, integrity, results, and empowerment.

The Health & Safety Associate is responsible for establishing, implementing, and progressively maturing Verdian’s Health & Safety (H&S) framework across multiple European jurisdictions, ensuring legal compliance, operational control, and long-term capability building.

The role operates at the center of Verdian’s transition from a growing IPP with active construction projects to a business where H&S is a fully embedded organisational strength, independently assured at fund level and aligned with recognised best practices such as ISO 45001.

This position holds ownership for H&S systems, reporting, training, and contractor oversight, with increasing autonomy over time, from foundation and stabilisation, through capability building, to full operational independence. It directly contributes to protecting people, assets, contractors, and business continuity, while demonstrating rigorous H&S standards to investors, lenders, and regulators.

The role requires independent decision-making in risk prioritisation, incident escalation, contractor compliance, and H&S system design, operating in a context of growing organisational complexity and cross-border operations.

Core responsibilities:

  • Establish and maintain H&S reporting to the fund, including KPI frameworks and governance cadence
  • Own H&S KPIs, reporting, and performance tracking across the organisation
  • Ensure H&S responsibilities are clearly defined, understood, and embedded across teams
  • Review and continuously improve the H&S policy and supporting documentation framework
  • Implement and scale a management system that evolves from minimum viable to mature and fully integrated
  • Ensure alignment with internationally recognised best practices and ISO 45001 principles
  • Map applicable legislation across jurisdictions and maintain a dynamic H&S risk register
  • Ensure compliance with Spanish, Italian, and EU legal requirements
  • Define employer H&S obligations and ensure documentation and adherence (including complex setups such as coworking or remote structures)
  • Embed H&S risk management across full project lifecycles
  • Establish incident reporting, escalation protocols, and investigation processes
  • Develop and execute assurance frameworks, including site presence, contractor verification, and audits
  • Build and manage a fully functioning assurance programme at IPP level
  • Review EPC and contractor H&S obligations and ensure compliance
  • Implement robust contractor prequalification, onboarding, and performance monitoring processes
  • Oversee H&S performance across construction sites and operational assets
  • Define and implement mandatory baseline H&S training requirements and maintain training records
  • Own and manage the annual H&S training calendar
  • Enhance organisational H&S knowledge and ownership through progressive capability building
  • Support transition from externally supported H&S model to fully internalised capability
  • Drive continuous improvement toward best-in-class H&S maturity and independence
  • Ensure H&S systems and practices scale with project pipeline and geographic expansion
  • Experience in Health & Safety management within infrastructure, energy, construction, or industrial environments
  • Knowledge of H&S regulations across Spain, Italy, and EU frameworks
  • Experience managing H&S in multi-project, multi-country environments with contractor exposure
  • Demonstrated ability to implement and scale H&S management systems and governance structures
  • Experience in risk assessment, incident management, and contractor oversight
  • Ability to design and implement H&S policies, procedures, and reporting frameworks
  • Knowledge of ISO 45001 or equivalent H&S management frameworks
  • Capability to manage training programmes, records, and compliance requirements
