Mercury is seeking an experienced EHS professional to manage health, safety and environmental programs on data centre construction sites in Italy. You will lead a team of EHS advisors and ensure compliance with Italian Legislation while coordinating with Municipality authorities.

The role requires extensive field experience, ability to work independently, and a proactive approach to safety management across multiple sites within the Mercury Engineering framework.

Competenze

  • 7+ years managing environmental, health and safety on large construction sites.
  • 5+ years leading a team of EHS advisors.
  • Thorough knowledge of current Italian environmental, health and safety legislation.
  • Experience communicating with the Municipality regarding Italian legislation.
  • Flexible working patterns; ability to work on own initiative.

Mansioni

  • Adherence to the project and Mercury Engineering Safety Management system.
  • Oversee EH&S compliance with statutory provisions and project plans.
  • Coordinate onboarding of Mercury staff and subcontractors per Italian law.
  • Serve as on-site contact with local Municipality.
  • Lead risk assessments, safe method statements, and permits to work.
  • Carry out toolbox talks and site safety audits.
  • Maintain safety documentation and training records.

Key Responsibilities of the Role:
  • Adherence to the project & Mercury Engineering Safety Management system
  • Adherence to relevant Environmental, Health & Safety statutory provisions & legislation
  • Adherence to Mercury Engineering & Client Environmental, Health & Safety Plans.
  • Assist with the onboarding of Mercury employees & Subcontractors as per Italian Legislation – ensuring all relevant documentation is in place
  • Act as point of contact on site for coordination with local Municipality
  • Coordination in the development of task specific Method statements, Risk assessments, Safe plan of action, Permit to work.
  • Compliance with the project execution plan.
  • Coordination of project safety indicators.
  • Good Safety Practices are managed & maintained.
  • Ongoing C.O.S.H.H assessments, control of hazardous substances.
  • Ensuring that safety interventions are completed & registered.
  • Carry out regular site audits and inspection, document results and follow up on any corrective actions.
  • Maintain records of statutory inspections are available for project activities, tool and plant.
  • Adopt a Proactive approach to project EHS requirements.
  • Ability to work either independently or as part of a team.
  • Provide Safety input to site management & at site EHS forums.
  • Ensure project sub-contractors adhere to project & group EHS policies & procedures.
  • Ensure that Mercury Engineering induction & training is coordinated, managed & maintained.
  • Project PPE is resourced & available.
  • Compile & carry out Toolbox talks, as necessary
  • Assist or carry out accident investigation reports in a timely manner & ensure communication to Mercury Engineering project management.
  • Welfare & Hygiene facilities are in place, managed & maintained.
  • Liaison with site Project Management on environmental, health & safety issues.
  • Up to date documentation is included with the Safety File.
  • Waste reduction and recycling programmes are maintained in line with project policies & procedures.
  • Any other duties associated with this role.
Essential Criteria for the Role:
  • RSPP & ASPP Trained
  • Experience working in Data Centre Construction
  • 7+ years’ experience of managing environmental, health and safety on large construction sites.
  • 5+ years managing a team of EHS advisors
  • Thorough knowledge of current Italian environmental, health and safety legislation
  • Experience in communicating with the Municipality regarding Italian legislation
  • Flexibility in working patterns where necessary.
  • Ability to efficiently manage all environmental, health and safety issues on site.
  • Ability to work on own initiative and possess strong interpersonal and communications skills.
  • Good team-working skills
