Job description

Global Strategic Portfolio Evaluation BI & CI Manager

Location: Florence, Italy

Contract: Permanent

Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced pharmaceutical professional to support global portfolio evaluation and strategic commercial decision-making for a leading international pharmaceutical organisation.

This is a high-impact role combining business intelligence, competitive intelligence, commercial forecasting and financial analysis.

You will help assess the commercial potential of pharmaceutical assets, support portfolio investment decisions and ensure that business cases are based on robust data, realistic assumptions and a strong understanding of regional market dynamics.

Working closely with senior stakeholders and cross-functional teams, you will translate complex clinical, epidemiological and market information into actionable insights that inform strategic planning and investment decisions.

Key Responsibilities
Commercial Evaluation & Financial Modelling
  • Support the development of P&L models, financial forecasts and asset valuations for potential licensing opportunities and internal portfolio investments.
  • Incorporate clinical Probability of Success (PoS) and risk-adjusted assumptions into commercial assessments across key markets, including Europe, the US, China and Japan.
  • Collaborate with regional stakeholders to validate commercial assumptions, assess local market conditions and ensure forecasts reflect realistic market opportunities and execution capabilities.
  • Contribute to business cases and strategic assessments supporting investment and go/no-go decisions.
Strategic Forecasting & Data Analysis
  • Develop and manage epidemiology-led and volume-based forecasting models for pharmaceutical assets, spanning early-stage development through to marketed products.
  • Lead data extraction, validation and analysis to support accurate commercial forecasting.
  • Assess target patient populations, disease prevalence and market potential to quantify commercial opportunities.
  • Translate complex clinical and market data into clear, commercially relevant insights for senior decision-makers.
Competitive Intelligence & Market Insights
  • Lead competitive landscape assessments, monitoring clinical trial developments, competitor activity, market trends and promotional strategies.
  • Analyse secondary market data using pharmaceutical intelligence platforms and other relevant market research sources.
  • Coordinate external consultants, market research agencies and specialist vendors to deliver targeted primary research and Key Opinion Leader (KOL) projects.
  • Integrate qualitative and quantitative research findings into portfolio assessments and strategic recommendations.
Candidate Profile
Experience & Background
  • At least 8 years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry across commercial strategy, marketing, business intelligence, analytics or competitive intelligence.
  • Experience supporting global or regional commercial assessments, portfolio evaluation or pharmaceutical forecasting.
  • A strong understanding of pharmaceutical markets and the commercial challenges faced by local affiliates.
  • Experience working directly with affiliate teams is highly desirable, although equivalent global or regional experience with strong exposure to local market dynamics will also be considered.
Education & Technical Expertise
  • An advanced degree in a scientific discipline, economics or a related analytical field.
  • An MBA or additional commercial qualification would be advantageous.
  • Strong financial modelling skills and an understanding of P&L components, revenue forecasting and commercial business cases.
  • Experience with pharmaceutical data and intelligence platforms such as IQVIA MIDAS, GlobalData, Cortellis or Decision Resources Group (DRG) is beneficial but not essential.
  • Familiarity with epidemiological forecasting, patient population sizing and qualitative or quantitative market research methodologies is an advantage.

Candidates may bring either a strong analytical and forecasting background or a strong competitive intelligence background, provided they can demonstrate sound commercial judgement and the ability to translate insights into strategic recommendations.

Key Competencies
  • Strong commercial acumen and strategic thinking.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to interpret complex scientific, clinical and market information and communicate its commercial implications clearly.
  • Confidence working collaboratively with global and regional stakeholders.
  • Excellent written and spoken English.
  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities and deliver high-quality analysis to support business-critical decisions.

This is an opportunity to contribute to strategic pharmaceutical portfolio decisions, combining rigorous analysis, competitive insight and commercial judgement within an international environment.
