Job summary

Leonardo, located in the Varese area (IT - Cascina Costa), seeks a Junior SubSystem Engineer for avionics display systems focusing on HMI and Model‑Based Design. The role involves design and development of safety-critical embedded software for aviation displays and integration on target hardware.

• Engineering degree in a technical field (e.g., Computer Science, Electronic, Electrical, Telecom, Automation, Aerospace).
• Proven experience with MATLAB/Simulink and C/C++ development.
• Knowledge of Real Time Safety Critical Embedded software development aspects.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop embedded software for avionics display systems (PFD, MFD, Touchscreens, Helmet Mounted Displays) using Model-Based Design.
• Implement graphic touchscreen displays with an intuitive HMI to optimise pilot workload.
• Manage software lifecycle in accordance with DO-178C/DO-331/ARP4754A standards; integrate Application SW on target hardware.
• Collaborate with hardware, software and systems engineering teams; define SW requirements.

For our Helicopters Division we are seeking a highly motivated SubSystem Engineer to join our Avionics Systems Development Engineering team, focusing on Display Systems and Human-Machine Interfaces (HMI). The candidate will be involved in the design and development of safety-critical avionics applications using Model-Based Design (MBD) methodologies, with a strong emphasis on graphical systems, pilot interaction, and human factors.

The role covers the full design and development subsystem lifecycle, including system modeling, HMI design, graphical implementation, SW integration, SW requirement definition, verification, and certification, ensuring compliance with aerospace standards and usability requirements.

The focus of the development is in the Application SW and its integration on the platform (HW and Low Level SW).

Key Responsibilities

• Contribute to the design and development of embedded software for avionics display systems (e.g., PFD, MFD, Touchscreens Controls, Helmet Mounted Displays) applying Model-Based Design methodologies
• Implement graphic of touchscreen display with a proper HMI with particular attention to Flight Test Operations pilot workload
• SW lifecycle management in accordance to applicable standard (DO-178C, DO-331, ARP4754A)
• Integrate Application SW on target systems
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams (hardware, software, system engineering)
• SW Requirement definition

Requirements

• degree in Engineering technical field (e.g. Computer Science, Electronic, Electric, Telecommunication, Automation Aerospace/Aeronautical Engineering)
• Proven experience with Matlab Simulink and SW development (C/C++)
• knowledge of Real Time Safety Critical Embedded SW development aspects
• interest in Human Machine Interface (HMI) aspects
