Job summary

Belmond is seeking a seasoned Director to lead the Engineering & Maintenance division for 13 hotels across Southern Europe. You will drive operational excellence, safety, and guest satisfaction, overseeing maintenance programs, renovations, and CapEx projects while preserving heritage properties and sustainability goals.

You will coach engineering teams, partner with Design & Construction, engage external contractors, and ensure compliance with Belmond standards and regulatory requirements.

Qualifications

• Minimum 10 years of experience in a similar leadership role.
• Master's degree preferred in engineering or related field.
• Proven track record managing large-scale hotel renovations and CapEx projects.
• Deep knowledge of hotel engineering installations (electrical, HVAC, plumbing, fire protection) and energy efficiency.
• Fluency in English with strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Experience in luxury hotel operations and sustainable practices (LEED/BREEAM/EarthCheck).
• Ability to travel extensively and work flexible hours.

Responsibilities

• Lead engineering & maintenance for 13 hotels across Southern Europe from concept to completion on renovations and CapEx projects.
• Collaborate with Design & Construction to meet specifications, budgets, and timelines; oversee commissioning.
• Provide leadership to hotel Directors of Engineering to foster safety and proactive maintenance.
• Conduct property visits and audits to ensure performance and regulatory compliance.
• Develop and manage divisional budgets (CapEx and OpEx) with cost controls.
• Drive energy optimization initiatives and integrate sustainable technologies.
• Establish and maintain vendor relationships; negotiate contracts for services and equipment.
• Support lifecycle management and technical guidance during renovations and capital projects.
• Mentor and develop the Engineering & Maintenance team to drive continuous improvement.
• Ensure adherence to Belmond standards and regulatory requirements across properties.
