Job summary
Caldic in Origgio, IT, seeks a Technical Application & Formulation Specialist for Personal Care to lead the new application laboratory, develop innovative formulations with supplier ingredients, and provide technical support to customers and commercial teams across Europe.
This individual-contributor role emphasizes hands-on laboratory work, independence, and close collaboration with suppliers and internal teams to accelerate adoption of our ingredient portfolio.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Cosmetic Science, Chemistry, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Chemical Engineering, Life Sciences, or a related field.
- 3–5 years in formulation development, application support, technical service, or laboratory work within Personal Care.
- Experience in skincare, haircare, sun care, toiletries, or related Personal Care segments is advantageous.

Job Title: Technical Application & Formulation Specialist - Personal Care
Work Arrangement: On-site
The successful candidate is expected to travel occasionally to customers, suppliers, industry events, and trade shows.
We are seeking a highly motivated, hands-on, and entrepreneurial Technical Application & Formulation Specialist to support the growth of our Personal Care business.
This newly created position will be responsible for establishing and operating our Personal Care application laboratory, developing innovative formulations using ingredients from our portfolio of suppliers and strategic partners, and providing technical support to customers and commercial teams across Europe.
The successful candidate will serve as the key technical link between customers, suppliers, partners, and our commercial organization. The role combines formulation development, laboratory work, technical consulting, supplier engagement, and commercial support to promote and accelerate the adoption of our ingredient portfolio.
This is an individual contributor role with no direct people management responsibilities. The successful candidate will be expected to operate independently, manage laboratory activities autonomously, and build a strong technical capability from the ground up while collaborating closely with internal and external stakeholders.
The ideal candidate combines solid technical expertise with strong communication skills, enjoys working directly with customers and suppliers, and thrives in an entrepreneurial, fast-paced environment where initiative, ownership, and flexibility are highly valued.
Within the first 12-24 months, the successful candidate will:
- Successfully establish and operationalize the Personal Care application laboratory.
- Build a portfolio of innovative formulations showcasing key supplier technologies.
- Become a trusted technical resource for customers, suppliers, and commercial colleagues.
- Increase customer engagement through technical projects and application support.
- Strengthen supplier relationships and expand the visibility of partner technologies.
- Contribute directly to business growth through technical-commercial support and innovation-driven opportunities.
- Lead the establishment of a new Personal Care application laboratory.
- Define laboratory requirements, equipment needs, testing capabilities, and operational procedures.
- Set up and maintain laboratory processes, formulation databases, and documentation systems.
- Manage raw material inventories, laboratory supplies, and test materials.
- Implement and maintain laboratory safety standards and best practices.
- Independently operate and manage all day-to-day laboratory activities.
- Develop, optimize, and showcase innovative Personal Care formulations using ingredients from our suppliers and partners.
- Create prototype formulations to demonstrate ingredient performance and application benefits.
- Conduct ingredient evaluations, benchmarking studies, and performance testing.
- Reformulate customer products to improve functionality, performance, sustainability, cost efficiency, or regulatory compliance.
- Conduct stability testing, compatibility studies, and product performance assessments.
- Prepare technical reports, formulation guides, application recommendations, and supporting documentation.
- Act as a trusted technical advisor for customers.
- Support customers in ingredient selection, formulation challenges, product optimization, and troubleshooting.
- Participate in customer meetings and technical discussions.
- Translate customer requirements into practical formulation solutions.
- Build strong relationships with customer R&D, formulation, procurement, and technical teams.
- Confidently engage in both technical and commercial conversations.
- Serve as the primary technical liaison between suppliers, partners, customers, and internal commercial teams.
- Work closely with supplier technical and innovation teams to identify new product opportunities and formulation concepts.
- Coordinate technical projects and information exchange between suppliers and customers.
- Support supplier visits, technical workshops, training sessions, and promotional activities.
- Stay informed of market trends, ingredient innovations, and emerging technologies within the Personal Care industry.
- Partner with the sales team to support business development and customer growth initiatives.
- Provide technical expertise throughout the sales cycle.
- Promote supplier technologies and ingredient solutions through demonstrations, presentations, and customer engagements.
- Support the launch and commercialization of new ingredients and technologies.
- Identify new application opportunities and contribute to strategic growth initiatives.
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Cosmetic Science, Chemistry, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Chemical Engineering, Life Sciences, or a related scientific discipline.
- 3-5 years of relevant experience in formulation development, application support, technical service, or laboratory work within the Personal Care industry is preferred.
- Experience in skincare, haircare, sun care, toiletries, or related Personal Care segments is advantageous.
- Strong understanding of Personal Care formulation principles and ingredient functionality.
- Ability to independently design, develop, test, troubleshoot, and optimize formulations.
- Knowledge of formulation evaluation techniques and laboratory best practices.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
- Entrepreneurial mindset with a willingness to build new capabilities from the ground up.
- Hands-on laboratory personality with a passion for experimentation and innovation.
- Self-starter capable of working independently and managing priorities with minimal supervision.

The annual base gross salary range for this position is from € 32.700 to € 41.000 (13 monthly salaries) + bonus. Final salary will be determined by experience, competencies, and alignment with the responsibilities of the role within our internal compensation structure. Yearly bonus plan: 8% of 12 monthly salaries.
