Job summary

Tata Consultancy Services is seeking a z/DevOps and System Automation consultant for Mainframe with 5–15 years of experience to drive DevOps toolchain implementations across PAN INDIA. The role covers z/OS environments, batch processing, and CI/CD for COBOL and CICS components.

Qualifications

• Hands-on experience with z/OS mainframe DevOps toolchain implementations and support.
• Experience with JCL, REXX, ISPF, TSO, SDSF, VSAM, DB2 utilities and batch processing concepts.
• Ability to design, build and maintain CI/CD pipelines for COBOL, PL/I, JCL, DB2 and CICS components.
• Knowledge of mainframe automation, workload scheduling, batch monitoring and alerts.

Responsibilities

• Implement and support mainframe DevOps toolchains (UrbanCode Deploy, z/OS tools).
• Maintain z/OS environments including JCL, REXX, ISPF, TSO, SDSF, VSAM, DB2 utilities and batch processes.
• Design and maintain CI/CD pipelines for COBOL, PL/I, JCL, DB2 and CICS elements.
• Automate operations with scheduling and monitoring tools (Control-M, CA-7, OPC/TWS, NetView).
• Automate repetitive tasks using REXX, JCL, shell scripting, Python or Ansible.
• Oversee release governance, deployment controls and rollback plans.
• Troubleshoot build failures, deployment issues and production incidents.
• Integrate mainframe pipelines with distributed DevOps platforms and test frameworks.
• Collaborate with application, infrastructure and release teams to reduce manual effort.
• Document processes and mentor junior staff.

• 1. Experience in mainframe DevOps toolchain implementation and support using tools such as IBM UrbanCode Deploy, IBM Developer for z/OS, Git, Jenkins, zAppBuild, DBB, Endevor, Changeman or equivalent SCM/release tools.
• 2. Strong hands-on experience in z/OS mainframe environments including JCL, REXX, ISPF, TSO, SDSF, VSAM, DB2 utilities and batch processing concepts.
• 3. Ability to design, build and maintain CI/CD pipelines for COBOL, PL/I, JCL, DB2 and CICS application components.
• 4. Strong knowledge of mainframe system automation, workload scheduling, batch monitoring and alerting using tools such as IBM Workload Scheduler, Control-M, CA-7, OPC/TWS, NetView, SA z/OS or equivalent.
• 5. Experience in automating repetitive operational tasks using REXX, JCL procedures, shell scripting, Python or Ansible where applicable.
• 6. Good understanding of release management, deployment governance, change management, rollback planning and production implementation controls.
• 7. Ability to troubleshoot build failures, deployment issues, batch abends, scheduler failures and production incidents independently.
• 8. Experience in integrating mainframe pipelines with distributed DevOps platforms, artifact repositories, code quality tools and automated testing frameworks.
• 9. Ability to work with application, infrastructure, operations and release teams to drive automation adoption and reduce manual effort.
• 10. Strong documentation, communication, stakeholder management and technical mentoring skills.
