We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Workday Payroll Administrator to support and optimize payroll operations across the United States and Canada. This role will serve as the primary HRIS and system support resource for payroll-related processes, ensuring timely resolution of incidents, service requests, system issues, and enhancement requests within Workday. The ideal candidate will have hands‑on experience supporting Workday Payroll, a strong understanding of U.S. and Canadian payroll processes, and the ability to troubleshoot complex payroll issues while partnering closely with Payroll, HR, Finance, IT, and external vendors. This role plays a critical part in ensuring payroll accuracy, compliance, system reliability, and an exceptional employee experience.
Key Responsibilities
Payroll System Administration & Support
- Administer and maintain Workday Payroll functionality for U.S. and Canadian payroll operations.
- Act as the primary point of contact for payroll-related tickets, inquiries, production issues, and service requests.
- Investigate, troubleshoot, and resolve payroll system issues while meeting established service level agreements (SLAs).
- Perform root cause analysis and implement sustainable solutions to prevent recurring issues.
- Monitor payroll processes and identify opportunities to improve efficiency, accuracy, and user experience.
Payroll Operations Support
- Partner with Payroll teams to support payroll processing activities, audits, reconciliations, and compliance requirements.
- Support payroll-related business processes including hires, terminations, compensation changes, tax updates, earnings, deductions, garnishments, direct deposit, and year-end processing.
- Analyze payroll discrepancies and collaborate with stakeholders to resolve issues.
- Ensure payroll configurations align with business requirements and regulatory changes.
Workday Configuration & Enhancements
- Support configuration changes within Workday Payroll and related functional areas.
- Assist with testing, validation, and deployment of system enhancements, fixes, and new functionality.
- Participate in Workday bi-annual releases, reviewing impact, testing changes, and recommending process improvements.
- Collaborate with HR Technology and Payroll teams to implement new features, integrations, and process improvements.
Reporting & Data Analysis
- Create, maintain, and analyze payroll reports and dashboards.
- Utilize Workday reporting tools to support payroll audits, compliance reviews, and operational metrics.
- Conduct data validation and reconciliation activities to ensure data integrity.
Integrations & Vendor Management
- Support payroll-related integrations between Workday and third-party payroll, tax, benefits, and finance systems.
- Partner with vendors and internal technical teams to troubleshoot integration issues.
- Assist in testing inbound and outbound payroll interfaces and data feeds.
Documentation & Knowledge Management
- Develop and maintain system documentation, process maps, SOPs, and knowledge base articles.
- Provide training and guidance to Payroll, HR, and business users.
- Document recurring issues and recommended solutions.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelors degree in Human Resources, Information Systems, Business Administration, Accounting, or related field, or equivalent work experience.
- Workday Payroll certification.
- 3+ years of experience supporting Workday Payroll.
- Experience supporting both U.S. and Canadian payroll processes.
- Strong understanding of payroll concepts including:
- Earnings and deductions
- Taxation
- Garnishments
- Direct deposits
- Retroactive payroll calculationsPayroll audits and reconciliations
- Year-end processing
- Experience managing production support tickets and troubleshooting complex payroll issues.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
- Experience working directly with Payroll stakeholders and cross-functional business teams.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

- Experience supporting Canadian payroll regulations and compliance requirements.
