Job summary

Wipro Infrastructure Engineering (Hydraulics) in India is seeking a Welding Engineer for the Prototype Shop (NPI). You will plan, supervise and improve welding activities for prototype and product development, coordinating weld qualification, robot and manual welding, NDT, documentation and supplier coordination to ensure compliance with drawings and standards.

Qualifications

  • Prepare and manage Weld Qualification Matrix, Weld Plans and Welder Qualification Records.
  • Welding process qualification and validation experience is required.

Role Description:

Responsible for planning, coordinating, supervising, validating, and continuously improving welding activities related to prototype and product development projects. The role involves weld qualification, welding process control, robotic and manual welding operations, NDT coordination, welding documentation, supplier coordination, and ensuring compliance with quality and safety requirements.

The incumbent shall act as the Welding Coordinator/Supervisor and ensure that welded products are manufactured in accordance with applicable drawings, customer requirements, welding standards, and approved procedures.

Additionally, the role involves:

  • Reviewing engineering drawings, specifications, weld profiles, and customer requirements.
  • Planning and executing weld qualification activities for new product developments.
  • Coordinating welding trials, prototype builds, and process validation activities.
  • Managing welding consumables, welding equipment, and welding cell operations.
  • Ensuring compliance with approved WPS, PQR, and welding procedures.
  • Supporting quality assurance through inspection, testing, and documentation activities.
  • Driving continuous improvement initiatives related to quality, productivity, cost, and delivery.
Qualification:
  • Degree in Welding Engineering / Mechanical Engineering
    OR
  • Diploma in Welding Engineering / Mechanical Engineering
Desired Experience:
  • 5 to 8 years of experience in Welding Engineering, Welding Supervision, Fabrication, Prototype Development, or Manufacturing Engineering.
Eligibility Criteria for Internal Applicants:
  • Minimum experience in the current role: 2 years
  • Minimum performance criteria (HVC/MR for last 2 years): HVC
  • Grade criteria: WIN F1 / WIN F / WIPRO WATER B2 / WIPRO WATER B1

  • Weld failure investigation and root cause analysis.

    • WDS (Welding Data Sheets)
    • WPS (Welding Procedure Specifications)

    • PQR (Procedure Qualification Records)

  • Documentation control and traceability management.
  • Coordination for WPS/PQR approvals with Welding Engineer.
  • Coordination with sourcing teams for raw materials and consumables.
  • Managing subcontracted fabrication and welding activities.
  • Monitoring supplier compliance with welding requirements and quality standards.
  • Vendor technical evaluation and capability assessment.
Manufacturing Facilities & Equipment
  • Selection of suitable welding equipment and associated manufacturing facilities.
  • Knowledge of:
    • Pre-heating requirements
    • Post Weld Heat Treatment (PWHT)
