Job summary

Genius Consultants in India is seeking a seasoned Welding Production Supervisor to lead cabin frame welding operations on the shop floor. You will ensure correct welding sequences per drawings and SOPs, monitor parameters and fixture settings, and coordinate with fabrication, machining, painting, and planning teams.

You will manage weld quality through visual inspection, NDT readiness, and documentation, address defects, and supervise welders, fabricators, and contract workers.

Qualifications

• Diploma or BE in Mechanical, Production, Metallurgy, or Welding Engineering.
• 38 years of welding, fabrication, or cabin/chassis/frame manufacturing experience.
• Exposure to MIG/MAG, CO welding, robotic welding (optional), assembly fixtures, and fabrication.

Responsibilities

• Execute daily welding production plans for cabin frame assembly.
• Ensure correct sequence of welding operations as per drawings and SOPs.
• Monitor welding parameters, heat input, and fixture settings.
• Coordinate with fabrication, machining, painting, and production planning teams.
• Ensure availability of raw materials like cut parts, welding electrodes, wire, gas, and consumables.
• Lead welders, fabricators, tack welders, and contract workforce on the shop floor.
• Train and skill-upgrade welders on MIG/MAG, TIG, SMAW processes as applicable.
• Monitor manpower allocation, discipline, and shift management.
• Conduct on-job coaching to improve weld quality and efficiency.
• Ensure proper functioning and maintenance of welding machines, jigs, fixtures, and manipulators.
• Coordinate with maintenance for breakdowns, preventive maintenance, and calibration.
• Ensure proper handling and storage of welding consumables.
• Ensure adherence to safety procedures related to welding, gas cutting, handling cylinders, PPE, and fire safety.
• Conduct toolbox talks, hazard identification, and risk assessments.
• Maintain ISO/IATF standards, QMS documentation, and shop floor audits.
• Drive improvement projects on cycle time reduction and fixture optimization.
• Implement Lean tools: 5S, Kaizen, Poka-Yoke, SMED.

Job description

1. Key Responsibilities

A. Production & Process Management

• Execute daily welding production plans for cabin frame assembly.
• Ensure correct sequence of welding operations as per drawings and SOPs.
• Monitor welding parameters, heat input, and fixture settings.
• Coordinate with fabrication, machining, painting, and production planning teams.
• Ensure availability of raw materials like cut parts, welding electrodes, wire, gas, and consumables.

B. Weld Quality Control

• Ensure all welds meet quality standards (visual inspection, NDT, dimensional accuracy).
• Identify weld defects (porosity, undercut, spatters, cracks, lack of fusion) and implement corrective actions.
• Work closely with QA for weld testing and documentation.
• Ensure welding SOPs, WPS (Welding Procedure Specification), and PQR (Procedure Qualification Record) are followed.

C. Manpower Handling

• Lead welders, fabricators, tack welders, and contract workforce on the shop floor.
• Train and skill-upgrade welders on MIG/MAG, TIG, SMAW processes as applicable.
• Monitor manpower allocation, discipline, and shift management.
• Conduct on-job coaching to improve weld quality and efficiency.

D. Equipment & Tool Management

• Ensure proper functioning and maintenance of welding machines, jigs, fixtures, and manipulators.
• Coordinate with maintenance for breakdowns, preventive maintenance, and calibration.
• Ensure proper handling and storage of welding consumables.

E. Safety & Compliance

• Ensure adherence to all safety procedures related to welding, gas cutting, handling cylinders, PPE usage, and fire safety.
• Conduct regular toolbox talks, hazard identification, and risk assessments.
• Maintain compliance with ISO/IATF standards, QMS documentation, and shop floor audits.

F. Continuous Improvement

• Drive improvement projects on cycle time reduction, weld quality enhancement, and fixture optimization.
• Implement Lean manufacturing tools: 5S, Kaizen, Poka-Yoke, SMED, etc.
• Identify opportunities to reduce rework, rejection, and wastage of welding consumables.

3. Qualification & Experience

• Qualification: Diploma / BE in Mechanical, Production, Metallurgy, or Welding Engineering.
• Experience: 38 years in welding, fabrication, or cabin/chassis/frame manufacturing.
• Exposure to: MIG/MAG, CO welding, robotic welding (optional), assembly fixtures, and fabrication.

4. Skills Required

• Strong knowledge of welding processes and weld defect analysis.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and weld symbols.
• Manpower handling and leadership skills.
• Knowledge of ERP / SAP for production reporting (preferred).
• Knowledge of WPS, PQR, and welding metallurgical basics.
• Good communication and problem-solving skills.
