Job summary

Thermax is seeking a welding technology specialist to lead weld procedure development, qualification, and shop floor supervision on manufacturing projects in Maharashtra.

You will train welders, ensure compliance with ASME Sec IX and IBR 1950, analyze weld defects, and calibrate welding equipment to meet project standards.

Qualifications

• Experience with welding procedures and qualifications per ASME/IBR.
• Knowledge of welding codes and standards (ASME Sec IX, IBR).
• Familiarity with carbon steel, alloy steel and stainless steel materials.

Responsibilities

• Study manufacturing drawings to prepare weld technology sheet/ weld map/ weld plan.
• Prepare WPS, PQR, WPQ/WOPQ documents and ensure compliance.
• Supervise procedure qualification and performance qualification of welders/operators.
• Train welders before performance qualification.
• Qualify welders per IBR/ASME/EN through authorities or CP.
• Monitor daily shop welding activities and maintain project-aligned documents.

Job description

Roles and Responsibilities:

• Study of the manufacturing drawings to prepare weld technology sheet/ weld map/ weld plan.
• Qualification and preparation of welding procedure specifications (WPS), Procedure qualification records (PQR), WPQ/WOPQ documents.
• Supervise procedure qualification and performance qualification activity of welder/ welding operators,
• Training of welder/welding operator prior to performance qualification,
• Qualification of welders as per IBR/ ASME/EN through Inspecting authority or CP.
• Daily monitoring of shop welding activities, interaction with welders and maintaining documents in line to project requirements.
• Technical supervision of all welders/welding operators on shop floor.
• Conduct Training programs for the welders, shop supervisors according to project specifications and standards.
• Weld defect analysis, and implementation of action plan.
• Calibration of welding and heat treatment equipments as per standards

Critical Competencies:

• Welding, heat treatment and metal fabrication knowledge
• Understanding of national/international codes and standards like ASME Sec IX, IBR 1950, etc
• Conversant with Carbon steel, alloy steel and stainless-steel materials etc
• Strong ability and in-depth knowledge of common welding processes like GTAW, SMAW, SAW, FCAW processes and welding consumables.
• Welding defects, its causes and
• Inspection and testing of weld joints.
• Welding consumables requirements as per code / customer specifications.
