Roles & Responsibilities of a VMC Setter

• Read and understand engineering drawings, process sheets, and job specifications.
• Set up the VMC machine by installing and aligning fixtures, jigs, and cutting tools.
• Load and verify CNC programs before machining.
• Set work offsets, tool offsets, and machine zero points.
• Perform trial runs and make necessary adjustments to ensure dimensional accuracy.
• Inspect the first-off component using measuring instruments such as vernier calipers, micrometers, height gauges, and dial indicators.
• Monitor machining operations and troubleshoot setup-related issues.
• Replace worn or damaged cutting tools and update tool offsets.
• Ensure proper clamping of workpieces to avoid defects and improve safety.
• Maintain required production quality and minimize setup time.
• Follow standard operating procedures (SOPs) and quality standards.
• Maintain cleanliness of the machine and work area (5S practices).
• Report machine abnormalities or maintenance requirements to the supervisor or maintenance team.
• Adhere to workplace safety rules and use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
• Coordinate with CNC operators, quality inspectors, and production engineers to achieve production targets.
• Maintain setup records and production documentation as required.
