Job description

To implement, monitor, and promote infection prevention and control practices across the hospital, ensuring compliance with hospital policies, standard precautions, and applicable healthcare infection control standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Monitor compliance with infection prevention and control policies and procedures across clinical and non-clinical areas.
• Conduct regular infection control rounds and identify potential infection risks.
• Monitor and report Healthcare-Associated Infections (HAIs) and support surveillance activities.
• Collect, analyze, and maintain infection control data and prepare periodic reports.
• Monitor hand hygiene compliance and conduct hand hygiene audits.
• Ensure compliance with standard precautions and transmission-based precautions.
• Conduct surveillance of surgical site infections, catheter-associated infections, ventilator-associated infections, and other relevant HAIs.
• Monitor appropriate use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
• Educate and train doctors, nurses, technicians, housekeeping staff, and other healthcare workers on infection prevention practices.
• Conduct orientation and awareness sessions for new employees.
• Monitor biomedical waste segregation, handling, and disposal practices.
• Monitor sterilization, disinfection, environmental cleaning, and aseptic practices.
• Coordinate with nursing, microbiology, housekeeping, CSSD, OT, laboratory, and other departments on infection control matters.
• Assist in investigation and control of suspected infection outbreaks.
• Support antimicrobial stewardship initiatives as required.
• Ensure appropriate documentation, records, and audit reports are maintained.
• Participate in Infection Control Committee meetings and implementation of recommendations.
• Support infection control audits, accreditation requirements, and regulatory compliance.
• Identify gaps and recommend corrective and preventive actions.
• Follow up on infection control-related incidents and ensure timely closure of action points.
• Perform any other duties related to infection prevention and control as assigned by the management.

Qualifications

• B.Sc. Nursing / Post Basic B.Sc. Nursing / GNM from a recognized institution.
• Additional certification or training in Infection Control / Hospital Infection Control will be preferred.
• Valid nursing registration with the applicable State Nursing Council.

Experience

• 4-8 years of relevant nursing experience, preferably in a hospital infection control department.
• Experience in infection surveillance, audits, training, and hospital infection prevention practices will be preferred.
