Job summary

The Calcutta Medical Research Institute (CMRI) seeks an Infection Prevention & Control specialist to lead hospital IPC programs, develop and monitor standards, and coordinate NABH compliance. You will engage in elevated IPC governance, audits, and staff education.

You will train diverse teams, supervise waste and linen practices, and drive continuous improvement in infection control, contributing to safer patient care and hospital performance.

Qualifications

• Experience in hospital infection prevention and control.
• Knowledge of NABH standards and hospital IPC guidelines.
• Strong training and presentation skills for diverse staff.
• Ability to monitor compliance and implement corrective actions.

Responsibilities

• Establish and monitor Infection Prevention & Control policies and procedures.
• Conduct hand hygiene audits and enforce compliance.
• Oversee biomedical waste management and linen handling practices.
• Train nurses, housekeeping, and other staff on IPC measures and risk reduction.
• Coordinate IPC programs across departments and hospital units.
• Investigate hospital infection incidents and report outbreaks.
• Conduct ongoing surveillance to identify infection sources and prevent spread.
• Ensure proper isolation of infected patients and adherence to protocols.

Job description

• Establish accepted standards and develop, implement and monitor Infection Prevention & Control policies and procedures to assure compliance with the standards
• Biomedical waste management.
• Hand Hygiene audit.
• Linen management and to deal with other infection control practices following in the hospital.
• Conducting training sessions for staff (especially Nurses, Housekeeping Staff, Support Staff and Paramedic staffs) to ensure constant implementation and updating the knowledge about the risk, prevention, transmission, and control of infection, disease-specific care, appropriate precautions, and appropriate assessments of infection control practices by In-service classes and demonstrations.
• Coordinating Hospital Infection Prevention & Control programs.
• Following and investigating the incidents of hospital infections.
• Conducting continuous surveillance for detecting the infection source for the purpose of prevention and reporting infection outbreaks.
• Ensuring the placement of infected patients in proper isolation.
• Participation in infection control link Nurse Team meetings.
• Being as a part of continuous quality improvement programs.
• Emphasis on staff safety by pre and post exposure management of occupational exposures and injuries.
• Audit various departments based on infection control point of view and as per NABH standards.
• Monitoring and ensuring practices and implementation of Infection Prevention Care Bundles (VAP, CLABSI, CAUTI, and SSI).
• Observing for cleaning disinfection of articles and surfaces.
• Supervise cleaning/fumigation of an infected case
• Reporting any interference for the implementation of infection control practices.
