Job summary

Origin Nutrition seeks an experienced Assistant Manager – Production to oversee daily manufacturing operations at its Chennai facility. You will manage planning, manpower, process optimization, and ensure GMP, HACCP and FSSAI compliance while delivering on production schedules.

The role requires 3–4 years in production/manufacturing, leadership experience, and familiarity with nutraceutical/health supplement manufacturing.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in food technology, chemical/mechanical/production engineering or related discipline.
  • Master’s degree or MBA in Operations/Production Management is an added advantage.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, organize, and supervise daily production activities to achieve targets.
  • Manage end-to-end manufacturing processes including raw material dispensing and packaging.
  • Ensure GMP, HACCP, SOPs and food safety compliance.
  • Coordinate with QC, Maintenance, Procurement and Supply Chain.
  • Monitor efficiency, OEE, machine utilisation and downtime.
  • Optimise manpower, machinery, packaging, and materials use to reduce waste.
  • Review production records and documentation for accuracy and compliance.
  • Lead production operators and ensure discipline and productivity.
  • Conduct training on GMP, SOPs, hygiene, food safety and workplace safety.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to reduce costs and improve productivity.
  • Ensure adherence to EHS guidelines and promote a safe workplace.
  • Prepare daily/weekly/monthly production reports for management.
  • Support audits with complete production documentation.

Job Description Assistant Manager Production

We are looking for an experienced Assistant Manager – Production to oversee and optimize daily manufacturing operations at our production facility. The ideal candidate will be responsible for production planning, manpower management, process optimization, quality compliance, and timely execution of production schedules while ensuring adherence to GMP, HACCP, FSSAI, and company quality standards.

Key Responsibilities
  • Plan, organize, and supervise daily production activities to achieve production targets.
  • Manage end-to-end manufacturing processes, including raw material dispensing, blending, sieving, packing, labelling, and finished goods dispatch.
  • Ensure strict compliance with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), HACCP, SOPs, and food safety regulations.
  • Coordinate with Quality Control (QC), Maintenance, Procurement, and Supply Chain teams for seamless production operations.
  • Monitor production efficiency, Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE), machine utilisation, and minimise downtime.
  • Ensure optimum utilisation of manpower, machinery, packaging materials, and raw materials while reducing wastage.
  • Review Batch Manufacturing Records (BMR), Batch Packing Records (BPR), daily production logs, and other manufacturing documentation for accuracy and compliance.
  • Ensure all production activities comply with FSSAI requirements and internal quality standards.
  • Identify production bottlenecks and implement corrective and preventive actions (CAPA) to improve efficiency and product quality.
  • Lead and supervise production operators, ensuring discipline, productivity, and adherence to company policies.
  • Conduct training programmes on GMP, SOPs, hygiene practices, food safety, and workplace safety.
  • Work closely with the Maintenance team to ensure preventive maintenance schedules are followed, and equipment breakdowns are minimized.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to improve productivity, reduce manufacturing costs, and enhance operational efficiency.
  • Ensure compliance with EHS (Environment, Health & Safety) guidelines and promote a safe workplace.
  • Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly production reports and present performance metrics to management.
  • Support internal, customer, and regulatory audits by maintaining complete and accurate production documentation.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in food technology, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Production Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • A Master’s degree or MBA in Operations/Production Management will be an added advantage.
Experience
  • 3-4 years of experience in production/manufacturing operations.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in a supervisory or team management role.
  • Experience in the Nutraceutical, Food Manufacturing, Health Supplements, Pharmaceutical, or FMCG industry is highly preferred.
Required Skills
  • Strong knowledge of food manufacturing processes and production planning.
  • Hands‑on experience in packing lines and batch manufacturing operations.
  • Good understanding of GMP, HACCP, FSSAI regulations, hygiene standards, and food safety systems.
  • Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, 5S, Kaizen, CAPA, and continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Ability to analyse production data and prepare MIS reports using MS Excel and ERP systems.
  • Strong leadership, problem‑solving, and decision‑making skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent planning, coordination, and execution skills to achieve production targets within scheduled timelines.
