Job summary

ePlane Company in Chennai, India is seeking a Mid senior/Senior Tooling Engineer for Jigs & Fixture design and development for eVTOL airframes prototype manufacturing. You will interact with vendors and cross-functional teams to realise tooling and prove-out and support in assembly integration.

Responsibilities include designing bonding jigs, fixtures, and ground support equipment, performing DFМ/DFA assessments and maintaining tooling documentation.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Aerospace or related field.
  • 5+ years of work experience in jigs & fixtures design & fabrication in aerospace.
  • Familiarity with aerospace jigs, fixtures, tooling, parts and materials is desirable.

  • Conduct DFM/DFA assessments to ensure manufacturability of airframe systems.

Job description

As an Mid senior/Senior Level Tooling Engineer- Jigs&Fixture design, you will be responsible for Jigs & Fixture design & development for eVTOL airframes prototype manufacturing & supporting in assembly integration.The candidate will be responsible for interacting with vendors and cross functional teams in realisation of tooling and proveout.

Design and develop Bonding jigs, assembly jigs & fixtures, Ground support equipments, Inspection gauges used in the production and maintenance of aircraft sub-assembly, assembly & integration.

Perform DFM/DFA assessment during tooling design reviews to ensure manufacturability of airframe systems.

Exposure to Aircraft assembly & integration processes, 3D metrology inspection.

Strong hold in CAD modelling & drafting in CATIA V6, Enovia PLM.

Maintain accurate documentation and records of tool designs and modifications.

Assist Internal/external suppliers and customers with tooling related fabrication questions

Process quote backup sheets with required tooling and technical data in support of procurement for Out-of-Production product lines

Interrogate engineering/tooling drawings and CAD models to understand tool geometry and complexity, with knowledge of the Cartesian coordinate system, and Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)

Utilize knowledge of common manufacturing processes as they relate to tooling, including casting, machining, forging, sheet metal fabrication, tube bending, welding, molding, composite layup and assembly to support Supply Chain

Utilize understanding of the different part commodities/part build strategies and what tool types are generally used for each commodity

Understanding of the need for periodic tool inspections and audits and ability to execute them

Articulate technical details relative to fabrication methods and tools required

Utilize a basic understanding of Loft Engineering

Utilize knowledge of the use of Master Tooling to control aircraft configuration

Coordination of tool repair, improvement and engineering change activity, as needed.

Experience with Excel, PowerPoint / Google suite.

Adhere to project timelines and budgets and quality of output.

Basic knowledge on ERP & PLM

Basic knowledge on cost estimation & time study of project execution.

Basic knowledge on QMS, QC tools & Metrology

Basic knowledge on GD&T, Fits & assembly

Basic knowledge on PFD,PFMEA, Control plan
