Job summary

Montra Electric is seeking a Telematics Software Specialist to build and optimize telematics components on custom Linux-based platforms. You will work on embedded C/C++, Python, or JavaScript while leveraging Yocto/Android Project, Bit-Bake, and Linux kernel integration.

You will lead system integration of modem, GNSS, diagnostics, and OTA update mechanisms, while collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver robust vehicle tracking and fleet analytics solutions.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in computer science, embedded systems, or equivalent.
• 8+ years of professional automotive telematics experience preferred.
• Strong knowledge of Linux/Android internals, Yocto, U-Boot, and device trees.
• Experience with diagnostics protocols (OBD-II/UDS) and ISO security standards.

Responsibilities

• Build, integrate, and optimize telematics software on Linux-based platforms.
• Lead system integration of modem, GNSS, diagnostics, and bootloaders.
• Design robust in-vehicle network communication for CAN, UDS, MQTT, and IP protocols.
• Create and maintain UDS services between TCU and external tools.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define software specifications.
• Review code, lead sprint discussions, and ensure on-time delivery.
• Provide technical support and documentation for field teams.

Job description

We are seeking a skilled Telematics Software Specialist with strong experience in embedded Linux/Android development using the Yocto/Android Project. You will be responsible for building, integrating, and optimizing telematics software components on custom Linux-based platforms

Role & responsibilities

• Strong in embedded C/C++, Python, or JavaScript for clean, maintainable telematics module development.
• Proficient in Yocto/Android Project, Bit-Bake, and custom Linux/Android builds for embedded platforms.
• Experienced in embedded microcontrollers, peripheral interfaces (CAN, I2C, SPI, UART), and hardware schematics.
• Define integration strategies based on various MCUs and SoCs.
• Experience in handling Linux Kernal integration and change management
• Experience in Integrating different Linux/Android SDKs and life cycle management
• Implement and debug CAN, UDS (ISO 14229), MQTT, and TCP/IP communication stacks.
• Design robust in-vehicle network communication for CAN, UDS, MQTT, and IP protocols.
• Create and maintain UDS diagnostic services between TCU and external tools.
• Expert in File system integration and working with various FS development and Integration related issues resolution.
• Expert in Linux/Android Boot and Boot Loader development and or Integrations
• Lead system integration of modem, GNSS, diagnostics, communication stacks, and bootloader.
• Optimize performance of telematics protocols and runtime through advanced testing and analysis.
• Propose and implement efficient algorithms and data processing for vehicle tracking and fleet analytics.
• Build applications for vehicle tracking, fleet management, remote diagnostics, and OTA updates.
• Create and manage system-d services, runtime daemons, and configuration scripts in embedded Linux/Android.
• Support FOTA and downstream ECU software update mechanisms using secure boot and rollback.
• Conduct integration testing, validation, and debugging using tools like gdb, perf, dmesg, and strace.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define system-level software specifications.
• Review code, lead sprint discussions, and ensure on-time delivery of software components.
• Provide technical support to field teams and users, including training and documentation.
• Document software design, APIs, integration workflows, and end-user instructions.
• Collaborate with vendors and partners for modem, GNSS, and cloud integration.
• Mentor and manage a team of 1-2 engineers working on software modules.

Preferred candidate profile

• Bachelor's/master's degree in computer science, Embedded Systems, or equivalent.
• 8+ years of professional experience, with at least 23 years in automotive telematics.
• Strong knowledge of Linux/Android internals, Yocto, U-Boot, and device trees.
• Experience with diagnostics protocols (OBD-II, UDS), security standards (ISO 21434), and functional safety (ISO 26262).
• Strong debugging, system analysis, and communication skills.
