Job summary

Loop is a subscription management platform built for e-commerce brands on Shopify. Our primary market is the US, with a growing presence in Europe and ANZ. We are scaling rapidly, driven by a strong product and exceptional merchant experience.

We aim to reach a $50M goal by 2026 with a strong engineering foundation. We are seeking a Senior Backend Engineer (6+ years) to write production-grade code, lead API and system design, own sprint planning, and mentor a team of 4-5 engineers.

Qualifications

• 6+ years of backend engineering experience.
• 1–2 years in a Tech Lead or Senior Engineer capacity.
• Strong hands-on proficiency in a backend stack such as Node.js, Java, Go, Python.
• Deep understanding of distributed systems, microservices, REST APIs, and event-driven architecture.
• Strong SQL and production-scale data handling.
• Experience with cloud infrastructure, preferably AWS, and CI/CD practices.
• Proven ability to lead technical delivery and mentor a team.

Responsibilities

• Write, review, and ship production-grade backend code regularly - this is a hands-on role
• Lead architectural decisions for your product area, including APIs, databases, system design, and infrastructure
• Own sprint planning, technical scoping, and delivery timelines for your team
• Mentor and develop a team of 4-5 backend engineers through code reviews, design discussions, and one-on-one meetings
• Partner with Product to translate roadmap priorities into technical execution
• Drive engineering best practices across observability, testing, CI/CD, and documentation
• Proactively identify and resolve performance bottlenecks, reliability issues, and technical debt

Ideal Profile

• 6+ years of backend engineering experience, including at least 1-2 years in a Tech Lead or Senior Engineer capacity
• Strong hands-on proficiency in a backend stack such as Node.js, Java, Go, Python, or a similar technology
• Deep understanding of distributed systems, microservices, REST APIs, and event-driven architecture
• Strong SQL and database fundamentals, including schema design, query optimisation, and production-scale data handling
• Experience with cloud infrastructure, preferably AWS, and CI/CD practices
• Proven ability to lead technical delivery by actively contributing and unblocking the team - not only delegating
