Loop is a subscription management platform built for e-commerce brands on Shopify. Our primary market is the US, with growing presence in Europe and ANZ. We are seeking a senior backend engineer to lead architecture, own delivery timelines, and mentor a team of 4–5 engineers to ship robust backend systems.

Qualifications

6+ years of backend engineering experience with 1-2 years in a tech lead role.
Proficient in Node.js, Java, Go, Python, or similar backend stack.
Strong understanding of distributed systems, microservices, REST APIs, and event-driven architecture.
Strong SQL and database fundamentals; production-scale data handling.
Experience with AWS and CI/CD practices.
Proven ability to lead technical delivery and unblock teams.
Strong communication skills.

Responsibilities

Write, review, and ship production-grade backend code.
Lead architectural decisions for product area - APIs, databases, system design, infrastructure.
Own sprint planning, technical scoping, and delivery timelines for the team.
Mentor and grow a team of 4-5 backend engineers through code reviews, design discussions, and 1:1s.
Partner with Product to translate roadmap priorities into technical execution.
Drive engineering best practices - observability, testing, CI/CD, documentation.
Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks, reliability issues, and technical debt proactively.

Responsibilities

Write, review, and ship production-grade backend code regularly - this is a hands-on role

Ideal Profile

Strong SQL and database fundamentals - schema design, query optimization, production-scale data handling
Experience with cloud infrastructure (AWS preferred) and CI/CD practices
