Job summary

Qualifications

• Learn to apply established guidelines with senior staff direction.

• Assist in installing, configuring, and maintaining server hardware (rack-mount, blade, and tower servers) under senior engineer guidance.
• Support troubleshooting of hardware failures, component replacements, and system restores.
• Assist with backup and disaster recovery operations, including regular backup testing and data restoration.
• Help apply security patches to operating systems and server firmware; support firewall configuration and access controls (e.g., Active Directory).
• Maintain accurate records of hardware inventory, configurations, changes, and incident logs.

Responsibilities

What you’ll achieve
As a Technical Apprentice, you will be learning how to do a specialized job through on-the-job training, perform duties to support the department that you are aligned to for a period of 12 months.

You will:

• Assist in installing, configuring, and maintaining server hardware (rack-mount, blade, and tower servers) under senior engineer guidance.


• Support troubleshooting of hardware failures, component replacements, and system restores.


• Assist with backup and disaster recovery operations, including regular backup testing and data restoration.


• Help apply security patches to operating systems and server firmware; support firewall configuration and access controls (e.g., Active Directory).


• Maintain accurate records of hardware inventory, configurations, changes, and incident logs.

Essential Requirements

• Hands-on experience and certifications can supplement or substitute for a degree.


• Learn server hardware fundamentals: server architectures, RAID configurations, storage systems, power and cooling.


• Gain familiarity with operating systems (Windows Server, Linux), virtualization platforms (VMware, Hyper-V), and cloud services (AWS, Azure, GCP).


• Solve straightforward problems using established guidelines and senior staff direction.

Desirable Requirements

• Work on limited-scope problems following standard procedures.


• Receive regular reviews and detailed instruction on new assignments.
