Job summary

Ather Energy in Bengaluru & Hosur seeks an Engineer Supplier Quality Mechanical - Fabrication to lead supplier performance, quality planning, and risk mitigation for fabricated components.

You will drive APQP/PPAP, monitor metrics, log NCRs, implement CAPA, and collaborate with Manufacturing and Design teams to uphold stringent quality standards across the supply base.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Automobile or Mechanical Engineering or equivalent required.
• Experience in supplier quality for fabrication parts; 7–10 years preferred.
• Must be proficient with APQP, PPAP, DFM, DFA, FMEA and GD&T requirements.

Responsibilities

• Monitor supplier quality metrics, NCRs, and SPR for fabrication parts.
• Drive supplier improvement plans to reduce rejections and improve First Pass Yield.
• Log quality issues with containment actions, RCA, and CAPA for process-related field failures.
• Execute APQP, PPAP, DFM, DFA for new/modified fabricated parts.
• Review drawings and GD&T to mitigate risk before mass production.
• Approve supplier measurement systems, fixtures, and CMM tooling.

Role: Engineer Supplier Quality Mechanical - Fabrication commodity

Location: IBC Knowledge Park, Bangalore & Vehicle Factory, Hosur

Reporting to: Group Lead SQA / Lead SQA

About the Team and the Role:

The Quality & Supplier Quality team at Ather is responsible for establishing and driving robust quality standards across our supply base to deliver superior vehicle components.

This role is for an Engineer Supplier Quality Mechanical - Fabrication commodity who will lead supplier performance monitoring, quality planning, risk mitigation, and continuous process improvements for all fabricated components.

Responsibilities

• Monitor key supplier quality metrics including PPM, Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs), and Straight Pass Ratio (SPR) for fabrication parts.
• Drive supplier improvement plans focusing on reducing internal rejections, resolving non-conformities, and improving First Pass Ratio (SPR).
• Log quality issues and deviations while establishing containment actions, Root Cause Analysis (RCA), and CAPA for process-related field failures.
• Execute Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP), DFM, and Production Part Approval Process (PPAP) for all new or modified fabricated parts.
• Review engineering drawings, Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) specifications, and supplier PFMEAs to mitigate risk prior to mass production.
• Evaluate and approve supplier measurement systems, checking fixtures, CMM programs, and tooling for critical-to-quality fabrication features.
• Drive scheduled preventive maintenance and restoration of full fabrication line setups across supplier facilities.
• Collaborate closely with Manufacturing Engineering, Supplier Management, and Design Engineering teams to maintain high quality standards.

Experience and Qualifications

• B.E or B.Tech with specialization in Automobile or Mechanical Engineering
• 7 to 10 years of relevant experience in Supplier Quality focusing on Fabrication Parts

Must Have Competencies

• Application of process design and quality assurance principles specific to automotive tubular and sheet metal fabrication parts.
• Execution of core quality frameworks including APQP, PPAP, DFM, DFA, and process FMEA for mechanical components.
• Problem-solving using structured techniques such as 8D and 7QC tools for defect containment and root cause resolution.
• Interpretation and review of engineering drawings, GD&T requirements, and tolerance specifications for fabricated assemblies.

Good to Have Competencies

• Assessment and calibration of supplier measurement systems, CMM programming, check fixtures, and inspection tooling.
• Implementation of preventive maintenance and restoration programs for supplier manufacturing fixtures, tooling, and gauges (FTG).
• Quantitative analysis of supplier quality metrics including PPM, NCRs, and Straight Pass Ratio to identify systematic performance gaps.
• Cross-functional technical collaboration across Design, Manufacturing, and Supplier Management teams to align quality targets.
