Supplier Manager - Transmission (Build to Spec Product)

What you’ll do at Ather
- Be resident supplier manager to design and execute sourcing strategies for the built-to-spec commodity, both short and long-term plans.
- Identify new potential suppliers as per drawing requirements, statement of requirements, latest technology trends, competition risks, etc.
- Assess supply chain risks and ensure mitigation strategies are in place.
- Drive and monitor the entire lifecycle of suppliers – selection, onboarding to exit, and techno-commercial qualification, including validation of processes.
- Participate in initial technical review meetings with potential suppliers along with the engineering team.
- Collaborate with engineering and finance to understand target cost setting through should-cost reports and identify levers to bridge gaps between target cost and quotes; establish cost reduction levers via engineering and negotiation.
- Identify and establish part cost/NRE cost/lead time structures for the commodity and sub-commodity parts, meeting cost, quality, and timeline targets for the program.
- Execute contracts with suppliers to secure commitment on cost, quality, and delivery and mitigate potential risks associated with SLAs.
- Align with the organizational long-term forecast and business plan to secure capacities at each supplier partner’s manufacturing line.
- Communicate with suppliers monthly to review requirement plans and ensure adherence to released MRP.
- Track capacity at suppliers and their sub-suppliers to ensure a smooth supply chain.
- Ensure the sustenance of established processes and plan for periodic audit and scorecard reviews.
- Devise and drive mechanisms to track commodity price fluctuations impacting the commodity and share impact with relevant stakeholders.
- Ensure seamless implementation of engineering changes and obsolete management at the supplier end and negotiate price revisions if necessary.
- Ensure timely material disposition for non-conformance parts and align with suppliers for next course of action.
- Establish cadence with engineering, SQA, MQA, and PQ teams to evaluate current performance of the supply base, devise improvement actions, and support implementation.
- Monitor timely payment to all supplier partners as per agreed credit terms.
Here’s what we’re looking for
- Prior experience in the development of built-to-spec products, preferably automotive parts such as transmission belts, pulleys, pressure relief valves, and breather (mechanical proprietary).
- Knowledge of e2W transmission architectures, venting solutions for batteries, motors and gearboxes, and other electro‑mechanical parts – product specific technical/domain knowledge.
- Strong knowledge of 4S – scouting, selecting, securing, and supplier relation management.
- Good experience in understanding supplier landscape, value chain mapping, and zero‑based costing based on drawings.
- Strong knowledge of different base manufacturing processes such as casting, machining, belt manufacturing, and gear manufacturing processes.
- Ability to work on spend analysis, negotiations, and understanding of commercials & INCO terms; financial statement analysis is a plus.
- Prior experience in understanding service level agreements, contract analysis, and negotiation with suppliers.
- Experience in procurement processes such as rolling out monthly/quarterly production plans, following up with vendors, and ensuring production fulfillment.
- Good understanding of AIAG manuals such as APQP, PPAP, FMEA and quality certifications such as IATF16949 & ISO9001.
- Product development life cycle experience and strong problem solving skills.

What you bring to Ather
- B.E./M.E. in Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or Automotive Engineering.
- 6–8 years of hands‑on experience on strategic sourcing & material handling of built-to-spec parts.
