Job summary

Tekance in Kolkata invites a Steel Modeler to create precise 3D steel models and fabrication drawings using Tekla Structures and other CAD tools. You will read structural and architectural drawings, model steel members and connections, and coordinate with engineers and detailers to meet project standards and codes.

This on-site role requires 4–7 years of modeling experience, strong attention to detail, and effective communication with project teams in the Greater Kolkata Area.

Job description

Role Description The Steel Modeler is responsible for creating accurate 3D steel models and detailed fabrication drawings using CAD and BIM tools. Day-to-day tasks include interpreting structural and architectural drawings, modeling steel structures and connections, coordinating with engineering and drafting teams, and ensuring adherence to project standards and codes. The role also involves preparing shop and erection drawings, updating models based on markups or design changes, and supporting clash detection and constructability reviews. This is a full-time, on-site position based in the Greater Kolkata Area, requiring close collaboration with project stakeholders to meet deadlines and quality expectations.

Qualifications

• Proficiency in structural steel modeling tools (e.g., Tekla Structures, SDS/2, or similar) and 2D/3D CAD software.
• Strong experience reading and interpreting structural, architectural, and fabrication drawings, including steel member and connection details.
• Knowledge of BIM workflows, model coordination, and clash detection in multi-disciplinary projects.
• Understanding of relevant steel design codes, standards, and industry practices for fabrication and erection.
• Attention to detail, strong problem-solving skills, and ability to maintain accuracy under project schedule constraints.
• Effective communication and teamwork skills for collaborating with engineers, detailers, and project managers.
• Relevant technical education in civil, structural, or mechanical engineering, or drafting; prior experience in steel detailing/modeling is highly beneficial.
• Willingness to work on-site in the Greater Kolkata Area and adapt to evolving project requirements and technologies.
• Good communication skills, with the ability to work directly with clients.
• 4–7 years of modeling experience is required.
