Job summary

KIMS Alshifa Super Speciality Hospital in Malappuram, Kerala, seeks a CVTS OT Nurse to prepare and assist in the operating theatre for cardiac and thoracic procedures. Qualifications

• Assist with patient positioning, skin prep and draping.
• Monitor intraoperative condition and document relevant data.
• Prepare and administer medications as directed.
• Assist during emergencies and intraoperative complications.
• Handle and transport specimens correctly.
• Maintain OT records, checklists and implant records.
• Follow infection control and safety protocols.

Role & responsibilities

• Prepare the operation theatre, surgical instruments, equipment, and supplies before surgery.
• Assist the surgical team during cardiac and thoracic procedures.
• Maintain strict aseptic and sterile techniques to prevent surgical-site infections.
• Work as a scrub nurse, preparing and passing instruments, sutures, and other surgical materials.
• Work as a cir circulating nurse, coordinating supplies, documentation, patient positioning, and communication with the surgical team.
• Check and prepare specialized cardiac surgical equipment, including cautery, suction, surgical lights, and other OT equipment.
• Assist with preparation for procedures such as CABG, valve replacement/repair, thoracic surgery, and other CVTS operations.
• Perform accurate instrument, needle, and sponge counts before, during, and after surgery.
• Receive and verify the patient, check identification, consent, investigations, allergies, and surgical site.
• Assist with patient positioning, skin preparation, and surgical draping.
• Monitor and document the patient's condition and relevant intraoperative information.
• Prepare and administer medications or solutions as directed and according to hospital policy.
• Assist during emergency situations, including cardiac arrest and other intraoperative complications.
• Ensure proper handling, labeling, and transportation of specimens collected during surgery.
• Maintain OT records, surgical checklists, implant records, and other required documentation.
• Follow infection-control, biomedical-waste management, and hospital safety protocols.
• Check availability and functioning of blood products and emergency equipment when required.
• Assist with safe transfer of the patient to the ICU/recovery area after surgery and provide appropriate handover.
• Maintain adequate stock of instruments, consumables, sutures, and emergency supplies.
• Participate in sterilization, disinfection, equipment maintenance, and OT quality-improvement activities.

Preferred candidate profile

BSC Nursing/ GNM Candidates with minimum 1 year CVTS OT Nursing experience preferred.
