Job description

The Scrub Nurse will be responsible for assisting surgeons during surgical procedures, preparing sterile instruments, maintaining aseptic conditions, and ensuring smooth operation theatre workflow. This requires GNM or B.Sc Nursing qualification, knowledge of OT protocols, surgical instruments, sterilization, infection control, patient safety, and procedure documentation. The candidate will coordinate with surgeons, anesthetists, OT staff, CSSD, and nursing teams for safe surgical care.

• Prepare sterile instruments, surgical trays, sutures, implants, and OT consumables before surgery.
• Assist surgeons during procedures by passing instruments and maintaining sterile field.
• Follow strict aseptic techniques, sterilization standards, and infection control practices.
• Verify OT readiness, surgical sets, equipment, medicines, and emergency supplies before procedures.
• Support patient positioning, draping, and pre-operative checklist completion.
• Maintain sponge count, needle count, instrument count, and surgical material reconciliation.
• Coordinate with CSSD for sterilized instruments and timely supply of surgical sets.
• Assist in OT cleaning, disinfection, room turnover, and procedure readiness.
• Maintain OT records, procedure logs, material usage, and nursing documentation.
• Report equipment malfunction, material shortage, or patient safety concerns to seniors.
• Follow biomedical waste segregation, PPE usage, and OT safety protocols.
• Support post-operative patient shifting and handover to recovery or ward staff.
• Maintain discipline, confidentiality, and professional communication inside OT.
• Coordinate with surgeons, anesthetists, nurses, technicians, and support staff.
• Ensure safe, smooth, and patient-centered surgical nursing support.
