Senior Process Engineer – Water & Wastewater Treatment

Location: Perungudi, Chennai, India

Working Hours: 9:00 AM – 6:00 PM (Mon-Fri), 9:00 AM – 1:00 PM (Sat)

Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Senior Process Engineer to lead the design, engineering, process calculations, and optimization of water and wastewater treatment systems. The successful candidate will develop treatment solutions, prepare process documentation, evaluate emerging technologies, and support projects from concept design through commissioning.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform process design and engineering for water and wastewater treatment plants.
• Carry out process calculations, hydraulic calculations, mass balance calculations, and equipment sizing.
• Develop and review Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs), Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), process design reports, and technical specifications.
• Evaluate raw water and wastewater characteristics (TDS, COD, BOD, TSS, turbidity, pH, conductivity) to determine appropriate treatment solutions.
• Design and integrate advanced treatment technologies such as Membrane Bioreactor (MBR), Moving Bed Biofilm Reactor (MBBR), Sequencing Batch Reactor (SBR), Activated Sludge Process (ASP), Ultrafiltration (UF), Reverse Osmosis (RO), Ceramic Membrane Systems, Electrocoagulation (EC), and Dissolved Air Flotation (DAF).
• Support Greenfield, Brownfield, and Greyfield projects, including new plant construction, plant expansion, and retrofit/upgradation works.
• Conduct plant performance evaluations, troubleshooting, and process optimization activities.
• Support commissioning and performance testing of treatment plants.
• Ensure compliance with environmental regulations, project specifications, and industry best practices.
• Evaluate and recommend emerging technologies and process improvements.

Required Skills & Expertise

• Strong knowledge of water and wastewater treatment processes and technologies.
• Expertise in process design calculations, hydraulic design, and treatment system sizing.
• Hands‑on experience in STP, ETP, and WTP design and engineering.
• Proficiency in preparing technical documentation and engineering deliverables.
• Familiarity with process modeling and engineering software such as BioWin, Bentley, WAVE, IMS, and similar tools.
• Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and project coordination skills.
• Knowledge of applicable environmental regulations and industry standards.

Preferred Candidate Profile

• 10‑15 years of relevant industry experience.
• Strong track record of delivering successful municipal and industrial water/wastewater treatment projects.
• Exposure to plant commissioning, troubleshooting, and performance enhancement initiatives.
• Ability to work independently while collaborating with multidisciplinary engineering teams.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Process Engineering, or a related discipline.
• Master's Degree is an added advantage.
• Minimum 8 + years of core experience in end‑to‑end process design within the water and wastewater treatment industry.
• Experience handling Greenfield, Brownfield, or Greyfield projects.
• Experience designing STP, ETP, or WTP facilities with capacities up to at least 20 MLD.
• Strong experience in process engineering, plant optimization, and technology selection.
• Proven experience integrating advanced technologies such as MBR, MBBR, and SBR.
• Experience preparing PFDs, P&IDs, process design reports, and engineering documentation.
• At least 50% of total professional experience should be focused on STP projects.
