Job summary

Primum Talent is seeking a Process Design Engineer / Senior Process Design Engineer for its Pune office to design and develop water and wastewater treatment processes. You will work on WTP, STP, ETP, and ZLD projects, selecting technologies and preparing engineering deliverables.

The role requires collaboration with Process, Mechanical, Piping, Electrical, Instrumentation, Civil, and Project teams to ensure designs meet project specs and safety standards.

Qualifications

• Experience in Process Design / Process Engineering in water & wastewater treatment.
• Hands-on experience in WTP, STP, ETP, ZLD or industrial wastewater projects.
• Good understanding of water & wastewater treatment processes.
• Experience preparing and reviewing PFDs and P&IDs.
• Knowledge of process calculations, hydraulic calculations, mass balance, and equipment sizing.
• Understanding of treatment technologies and process equipment.
• Ability to read and understand engineering drawings, datasheets, specifications, and technical documents.
• Good coordination with multidisciplinary engineering and project teams.
• Strong technical communication and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop process schemes for WTP/STP/ETP/ZLD projects.
• Prepare and review PFDs, P&IDs, and equipment datasheets.
• Perform sizing calculations and hydraulic/mass balance analyses.
• Select suitable treatment technologies per client needs.
• Coordinate with mechanical, piping, electrical, instrumentation, civil and procurement teams.
• Support project teams during installation, testing, commissioning and troubleshooting.

About the Role

We are looking for a Process Design Engineer / Senior Process Design Engineer who has experience in designing and developing treatment processes for Water Treatment Plants (WTP), Sewage Treatment Plants (STP), Effluent Treatment Plants (ETP), and Zero Liquid Discharge (ZLD) systems .

The candidate will be responsible for understanding customer requirements, selecting suitable treatment technologies, developing process designs, and preparing engineering documents for water and wastewater treatment projects.

You will work closely with Process, Mechanical, Piping, Electrical, Instrumentation, Civil, Project, and Site teams to ensure the process design is technically correct and meets project requirements.

Key Responsibilities

1. Process Design & Engineering

• Water Treatment Plants (WTP)
• Sewage Treatment Plants (STP)
• Effluent Treatment Plants (ETP)
• Understand client requirements and project specifications.
• Study raw water and wastewater characteristics and determine the appropriate treatment process.
• Understand treated-water quality requirements and applicable discharge standards .
• Select suitable water/wastewater treatment technologies based on project requirements.
• Develop complete process treatment schemes for projects.

2. Engineering Drawings & Documents

• Prepare and review important process engineering documents such as:
• Process Flow Diagrams (PFD)
• Process & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&ID)
• Equipment sizing calculations
• Hydraulic calculations
• Equipment and instrument datasheets
• Technical specifications
• Water and chemical balance
• Process descriptions and narratives

3. Process Calculations & Equipment Sizing

• Perform process calculations for various treatment units.
• Carry out sizing of tanks, clarifiers, filters, biological treatment systems, pumps, pipelines, membranes, and other process equipment .
• Prepare and review hydraulic calculations and mass balance .
• Ensure equipment selection and sizing meet the required treatment capacity and performance.

4. Treatment Technology Selection

• Evaluate and select suitable treatment technologies based on:
• Raw water/wastewater characteristics
• Required treated-water quality
• Client requirements
• Work with technologies such as physical, chemical, biological, membrane, and advanced treatment processes .
• Experience with RO, UF, MBR, ETP, STP, WTP, ZLD, MEE , or similar technologies will be an advantage.

5. Coordination with Engineering & Project Teams

• Coordinate with Mechanical, Piping, Electrical, Instrumentation, Civil, Procurement, and Project teams .
• Provide process inputs required for detailed engineering and equipment selection.
• Review vendor technical documents and ensure compliance with process requirements.
• Support project teams during installation, testing, commissioning, and troubleshooting when required.

6. Client & Project Support

• Understand client technical requirements and provide suitable process solutions.
• Participate in technical discussions with clients, consultants, and vendors.
• Support preparation of technical proposals and project documentation when required.
• Resolve process-related technical queries during project execution.
• Ensure designs comply with project specifications, applicable codes, safety requirements, and company engineering standards .

Candidate Requirements

We are looking for candidates with:

• Experience in Process Design / Process Engineering in the Water & Wastewater Treatment industry .
• Hands-on experience in WTP, STP, ETP, ZLD, or industrial wastewater projects .
• Good understanding of water and wastewater treatment processes.
• Experience preparing and reviewing PFDs and P&IDs .
• Knowledge of process calculations, hydraulic calculations, mass balance, and equipment sizing .
• Understanding of treatment technologies and process equipment.
• Ability to read and understand engineering drawings, datasheets, specifications, and technical documents .
• Good coordination skills with multidisciplinary engineering and project teams.
• Good technical communication and problem-solving skills.
