Job summary

Staples India Business Innovation Hub Private Limited in India is seeking an experienced Enterprise Storage & Backup Engineer to administer and optimize complex storage environments and backup strategies. You will manage SAN fabrics, perform capacity planning, and lead lifecycle management across multi-vendor platforms.

The role requires deep hands-on NetBackup expertise and a track record of maintaining high SLA performance in critical applications.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in CS, IS or related field.
• 10–12 years of enterprise storage and backup engineering experience.
• Hands-on Veritas NetBackup administration and architecture.

Responsibilities

• Administer storage and backup environments across EMC PowerMax, NetApp, Isilon, etc.
• Manage Cisco MDS SAN fabric (zoning, VSANs, trunking) and capacity planning.
• Ensure availability, reliability, and performance of storage platforms supporting critical applications.
• Execute lifecycle management including firmware upgrades, patching, and health checks.
• Design, implement, and administer Veritas NetBackup (including Flex Appliances).
• Define and manage backup policies, retention schedules, and recovery procedures.
• Monitor and troubleshoot backup jobs to ensure SLA compliance.
• Perform restore validations, DR testing, and backup audits.
• Develop and implement enterprise backup and disaster recovery strategies.
• Integrate backup solutions with virtualization (VMware).
• Support replication, archiving, and data lifecycle management initiatives.
• Lead troubleshooting and root cause analysis of storage/backup incidents.
• Drive service reliability improvements and prevent recurring issues.
• Support 24x7 operations/on-call rotation as needed.
• Monitor storage utilization and forecast growth requirements.
• Optimize backup performance, deduplication, and storage efficiency.
• Plan and execute storage expansion and refresh activities.
• Automate storage and backup operations using scripting (PowerShell, Python).
• Maintain technical documentation, SOPs, and architecture diagrams.
• Ensure compliance with security, governance, and regulatory requirements.
• Partner with cloud, virtualization, database, and application teams to deliver integrated solutions.
• Provide technical leadership and mentoring to junior engineers.
• Act as SME for enterprise storage and backup technologies.
