Job summary

Idex is seeking an experienced engineer to drive innovation in paint dispensing and mixing systems. You will develop architectures, specify requirements, and lead cross-functional teams through design reviews and prototyping to ensure successful launches.

The role involves optimizing fluid handling, selecting components, and collaborating with firmware and manufacturing to deliver high-quality, cost-efficient solutions. 4–9 years in related fields is preferred.

Qualifications

• Proficiency in CAD software; SolidWorks preferred.
• Knowledge of fluid handling, pumps, valves, sensors and related assemblies.
• Experience with DFMEA, GD&T, tolerance stack-up analysis, DOE and statistical methods.
• Experience with engineering change management processes.
• Knowledge of paint colorant dispensing and tinting technologies.

Responsibilities

• Develop new paint dispensing and mixing systems per market and customer requirements.

Job description

Role & responsibilities

• Develop new paint dispensing and mixing systems based on market, customer, and business requirements.
• Benchmark competitor products and identify opportunities for innovation.
• Develop solutions for accurate paint dispensing & mixing through Innovation Gates (IG).
• Drive product development through Toll Gate (TG) phases including concept, design, prototyping, validation, and launch.
• Create system architecture, product specifications, and technical requirements.
• Lead design reviews to improve product quality and reduce manufacturing costs.
• Build and evaluate prototypes with testing for results generation.
• Optimize fluid flow, dispensing accuracy, repeatability, and contamination prevention & improve dispensing performance.
• Evaluate and select pumps, valves, sensors, tubing, mixers, and control systems.
• Generate 3D CAD models, engineering drawings, and BOMs.
• Perform tolerance analysis, material selection, and engineering calculations.
• Work with firmware and software teams to integrate control systems, sensors and define functional requirements for dispensing algorithms and mixing cycles.
• Collaborate with manufacturing teams during pilot builds and production ramp-up.
• Manage project schedules, deliverables and technical risks with regular updates to stakeholders.

Technical Skills

• Proficiency in CAD software (SolidWorks). PDM working experience preferable.
• Knowledge of fluid handling and dispensing systems along with pumps, valves, motors, sensors, and electromechanical assemblies.
• DFM, DFA, DFMEA, GD&T, tolerance stack-up analysis, statistical analysis and Design of Experiments (DOE).
• Engineering change management processes.
• Paint industry knowledge of colorant dispensing and tinting technologies.

Preferred candidate profile

4-9 years of experience in Innovation and New Product Development. Preferred experience includes paint and fluid dispensing systems, automated machinery, industrial equipment development, as well as mixing and pumping technologies, with a strong focus on delivering innovative engineering solutions.
