Job summary

Qualifications

• ITI (Machinist / Fitter / Turner) or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering.
• 25 years of hands-on experience operating CNC turning or conventional lathe machines.
• Strong knowledge of cutting parameters for various materials (steel, aluminum, plastics).
• Familiarity with CNC controller interfaces (Fanuc, Siemens, Haas, Mazak).
• Proficient with standard precision measuring tools.

Responsibilities

• Set up, adjust, and operate conventional/CNC turning lathe machines for various turning operations.
• Read and interpret mechanical drawings, tolerances, and process sheets.
• Select and mount tools and fixtures, ensuring proper alignment and workholding.
• Inspect finished components with micrometers, calipers, and gauges to ensure tolerances.
• Load CNC programs, set offsets, adjust feeds/speeds, and edit programs as needed.
• Perform routine preventive maintenance and maintain 5S at the workstation.
• Adhere to workplace safety protocols and wear PPE.

Job description

The Turning Operator is responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining conventional and CNC turning lathe machines to produce precision metal or plastic components according to engineering blueprints and exact technical specifications.

Key Responsibilities

• Machine Setup & Operation: Set up, adjust, and operate conventional/CNC turning lathe machines to perform facing, turning, grooving, boring, threading, and parting operations.
• Blueprint Interpretation: Read and interpret mechanical engineering drawings, specifications, tolerances, and process sheets.
• Tooling & Fixturing: Select, mount, align, and secure appropriate cutting tools, attachments, and workholding fixtures (chucks, collets, steady rests).
• Quality Inspection: Inspect finished and in-process workpieces using precision measurement instruments (micrometers, vernier calipers, bore gauges, height gauges, dial indicators) to ensure strict adherence to tolerances.
• Program Adjustments (CNC): Load CNC programs, set tool offsets, adjust feeds and speeds, and make minor program edits/offsets when required.
• Maintenance & Housekeeping: Perform routine preventive maintenance on turning machines, manage coolant levels, clean swarf/chips, and maintain 5S standards across the workstation.
• Safety Compliance: Adhere strictly to workplace health and safety protocols, including the correct use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).

Required Skills & Qualifications

• Education: ITI (Machinist / Fitter / Turner) or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering.
• Experience: 25 years of hands‑on experience operating CNC turning or conventional lathe machines in a precision manufacturing environment.
• Technical Proficiency:
  • Strong knowledge of cutting parameters (feed rates, cutting speeds, depth of cut) for various materials (mild steel, stainless steel, aluminum, brass, engineered plastics).
  • Familiarity with CNC controller interfaces (e.g., Fanuc, Siemens, Haas, or Mazak) is preferred.
  • Proficiency with standard precision measuring tools.
• Core Competencies: High attention to detail, strong spatial/mechanical reasoning, and the ability to work in rotating shifts.
