Job summary

Persistent Systems seeks an experienced Senior Azure SQL Database Administrator to manage enterprise-scale SQL environments in cloud and hybrid setups. You will optimize Azure SQL Databases, manage migrations to Azure, and implement robust HA/DR, security, and observability practices.

The role emphasizes automation with PowerShell/T-SQL, IaC using Terraform/Bicep/ARM, and CI/CD via Azure DevOps. Collaboration with development teams and production support are key components.

Qualifications

• 10-15 years of experience as a SQL Server Database Administrator for enterprise-scale environments.
• Strong expertise in Azure SQL Database and Azure SQL Managed Instance administration.
• Extensive experience managing Microsoft SQL Server environments across multiple versions.
• Deep understanding of High Availability and Disaster Recovery architectures and best practices.
• Hands-on experience with Always On Availability Groups, Failover Clustering, Geo-Replication, and backup strategies.
• Strong expertise in database performance tuning, query optimization, indexing, and troubleshooting.
• Advanced proficiency in T-SQL scripting and PowerShell automation.
• Experience with Azure Virtual Machines hosting SQL Server workloads.
• Knowledge of Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, and database observability tools.
• Experience leading database migration and modernization projects into Azure environments.
• Expertise with Terraform, Bicep, and ARM Templates as IaC tools.
• Experience implementing database security, auditing, encryption, access controls, and compliance standards.
• Knowledge of Azure DevOps, CI/CD pipelines, and database deployment automation.
• Familiarity with SSIS and Azure Data Factory (ADF).

Responsibilities

• Manage, administer, and optimize Azure SQL Databases, Azure SQL Managed Instances, and SQL Server environments running on Azure VMs.
• Perform installation, configuration, patching, upgrades, backup, recovery, and maintenance activities.
• Lead SQL Server modernization and migration initiatives to Azure cloud platforms.
• Monitor performance and proactively identify bottlenecks affecting availability and efficiency.
• Analyze execution plans, indexing strategies, wait statistics, and query performance issues.
• Optimize query execution, storage, compute resources, and overall database performance.
• Implement High Availability and Disaster Recovery solutions (Always On, FCI, Geo-Replication, PITR).
• Develop and maintain monitoring/observability with Azure Monitor and Log Analytics.
• Automate tasks using PowerShell, T-SQL, ARM/Bicep/Terraform; build CI/CD pipelines for deployments.

We are seeking an experienced Senior Azure SQL Database Administrator with 10 to 15 years of expertise in managing enterprise-scale database environments across cloud and hybrid infrastructures. The ideal candidate will possess deep technical knowledge of Azure SQL Database, Azure SQL Managed Instance, and Microsoft SQL Server, with a strong focus on performance optimization, automation, database security, high availability, disaster recovery, and cloud modernization initiatives.

What You'll Do:

• Support production environments and provide root cause analysis for critical database incidents.
• Establish governance frameworks, operational procedures, standards, and best practices for database management.
• Mentor junior database administrators and provide technical leadership across database initiatives.
