Job Summary
We are seeking a skilled and proactive SQL Server Database Administrator (DBA) to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for the implementation, configuration, maintenance, and performance of critical SQL Server systems, ensuring high availability and consistent performance. This role also requires hands‑on experience with Microsoft Azure database offerings, including Azure SQL Database, Managed Instances, and other cloud‑based data services.
Key Responsibilities
- Install, configure, and maintain SQL Server databases (2016 and above) in both on‑prem and Azure environments.
- Ensure database availability, performance, integrity, and security.
- Perform regular maintenance tasks such as backups, indexing, and patching.
- Monitor system health and performance using tools such as SQL Server Profiler, DMVs, and third‑party solutions.
- Manage and support disaster recovery and high‑availability solutions (e.g., AlwaysOn, Failover Clustering, Log Shipping).
- Develop and maintain documentation including data models, configurations, and processes.
- Troubleshoot database issues, performance bottlenecks, and T‑SQL code.
- Collaborate with developers and infrastructure teams to support application needs.
- Migrate and modernize SQL Server workloads to Azure where appropriate.
- Utilize Azure offerings such as Azure SQL Database, Azure SQL Managed Instance, and Azure Data Factory.
- Implement security best practices including encryption, auditing, and RBAC (Role‑Based Access Control).
- Automate routine tasks using PowerShell or other scripting languages.
- Provide on‑call support as needed for production incidents.
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years of hands‑on experience as a SQL Server DBA.
- Strong knowledge of T‑SQL, indexing strategies, and performance tuning.
- Experience with SQL Server versions 2016 and newer.
- Proficient in backup, recovery, and disaster recovery planning.
- Strong understanding of database security, roles, and permissions.
- Hands‑on experience with Microsoft Azure Database services, including Azure SQL Database, Azure SQL Managed Instance, and Azure Data Factory.
- Experience with Azure Monitor and Log Analytics.
- Azure Backup & Restore strategies for database.
- Experience with hybrid environments (on‑prem + cloud).
- Familiarity with tools like SSMS, Azure Portal, and PowerShell.
Preferred Qualifications
- Microsoft certifications such as Azure Database Administrator Associate or MCSA: SQL Server.
- Experience with Infrastructure as Code (e.g., ARM templates, Bicep, Terraform).
- Familiarity with DevOps processes and CI/CD for database deployment.
- Experience with monitoring tools such as Redgate, SolarWinds, or New Relic.
- Knowledge of NoSQL databases or Azure Cosmos DB.
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
- Excellent communication and documentation abilities.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Proactive attitude toward learning and adapting to new technologies.
