Persistent is seeking an experienced Senior Azure SQL Database Administrator to manage enterprise-scale database environments across cloud and hybrid infrastructures. The role emphasizes Azure SQL Database, Azure SQL Managed Instance, and SQL Server with focus on performance, automation, security, and DR/BC.

Qualifications

• 10–15 years of experience as a SQL Server Database Administrator in enterprise-scale environments.
• Deep expertise in Azure SQL Database, Azure SQL Managed Instance, and SQL Server on Azure VM.
• Strong focus on performance optimization, automation, security, and DR/BC.

Responsibilities

• Manage, administer, and optimize Azure SQL Databases, Azure SQL Managed Instances, and SQL Server environments on Azure VMs.
• Perform installation, configuration, patching, upgrades, backups, recovery, and maintenance tasks.
• Lead modernization and migration from on-premises to Azure cloud platforms.
• Monitor performance and proactively address bottlenecks
• Analyze execution plans, indexing, wait stats, and query performance.
• Optimize storage, compute, and overall DB performance.
• Implement high availability and disaster recovery solutions (AGs, Failover Clustering, Geo-Replication, PITR).
• Develop observability with Azure Monitor and Log Analytics.
• Automate DB tasks with PowerShell, T-SQL, ARM, Bicep, Terraform.
• Build CI/CD pipelines for database deployments and release automation.

About Position:

We are seeking an experienced Senior Azure SQL Database Administrator with 10 to 15 years of expertise in managing enterprise-scale database environments across cloud and hybrid infrastructures. The ideal candidate will possess deep technical knowledge of Azure SQL Database, Azure SQL Managed Instance, and Microsoft SQL Server, with a strong focus on performance optimization, automation, database security, high availability, disaster recovery, and cloud modernization initiatives.

What You'll Do:

• Manage, administer, and optimize Azure SQL Databases, Azure SQL Managed Instances, and SQL Server environments running on Azure Virtual Machines.


• Perform database installation, configuration, patching, upgrades, backup, recovery, and maintenance activities.


• Lead SQL Server modernization and migration initiatives from on-premises environments to Azure cloud platforms.


• Monitor database performance and proactively identify bottlenecks affecting availability and efficiency.


• Analyze execution plans, indexing strategies, wait statistics, and query performance issues.


• Optimize query execution, storage utilization, compute resources, and overall database performance.


• Implement and manage High Availability and Disaster Recovery solutions.


• Configure and support Always On Availability Groups, Failover Clustering, Geo-Replication, and Point-in-Time Recovery solutions.


• Ensure recovery objectives and business continuity requirements are consistently achieved.


• Develop and implement database monitoring and observability solutions using Azure Monitor and Log Analytics.


• Automate database administration tasks using PowerShell, T-SQL, ARM Templates, Bicep, and Terraform.


• Build and maintain Azure DevOps CI/CD pipelines for database deployment and release automation.


• Implement database security controls, encryption mechanisms, auditing, and compliance policies.


• Collaborate with application development teams to improve database design and application performance.


• Support production environments and provide root cause analysis for critical database incidents.


• Establish governance frameworks, operational procedures, standards, and best practices for database management.


• Mentor junior database administrators and provide technical leadership across database initiatives.

Expertise You'll Bring:

• 10-15 years of experience as a SQL Server Database Administrator supporting enterprise-scale environments.


• Strong expertise in Azure SQL Database and Azure SQL Managed Instance administration.


• Extensive experience managing Microsoft SQL Server environments across multiple versions.


• Deep understanding of High Availability and Disaster Recovery architectures and best practices.


• Hands-on experience with Always On Availability Groups, Failover Clustering, Geo-Replication, and backup strategies.


• Strong expertise in database performance tuning, query optimization, indexing, and troubleshooting.


• Advanced proficiency in T-SQL scripting and PowerShell automation.


• Experience with Azure Virtual Machines hosting SQL Server workloads.


• Strong knowledge of Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, and database observability tools.


• Experience leading database migration and modernization projects into Azure environments.


• Expertise with Infrastructure as Code solutions including Terraform, Bicep, and ARM Templates.


• Experience implementing database security, auditing, encryption, access controls, and compliance standards.


• Knowledge of Azure DevOps, CI/CD pipelines, and database deployment automation.


• Familiarity with ETL technologies such as SSIS and Azure Data Factory (ADF).


• Understanding of data governance, database lifecycle management, and operational excellence practices.


• Exposure to NoSQL technologies including Azure Cosmos DB.


• Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving capabilities.


• Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and leadership skills.


• Experience working in large-scale production environments supporting business-critical applications.
