Education Qualification
- B.E. / B.Tech in Mechanical / Electrical / Electronics Engineering
- MBA / PG Diploma in Materials Management or Supply Chain Management is an added advantage
Experience
- Minimum 15-20 years of experience in sourcing / purchase / supply chain in a manufacturing environment, of which a substantial period in a team-leading or category-owning role.
- Experience in an aerospace, defence or space industry supply chain is mandatory; AS9100 certified organisation preferred.
- Demonstrated track record in supply base development, cost reduction, localisation and supplier quality improvement across more than one commodity.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and execute category sourcing strategies for special processes, COTS parts and metals & mechanical parts, aligned to the business plan and programme requirements.
- Lead the annual cost-reduction programme – set and track savings targets by category, approve should-cost models and negotiation mandates, and conclude high-value negotiations.
- Own the Approved Vendor List across all categories – supplier selection, approval, periodic evaluation and re-rating, de-listing, and supply risk management (single source, financial health, capacity, geopolitical).
- Lead supplier audits (system, process and special process) jointly with Quality; ensure NADCAP and customer-approved source compliance for all special processes.
- Ensure complete AS9100D purchasing compliance – flow-down of customer requirements, sub-tier control, counterfeit avoidance, traceability and record retention; represent Purchasing in customer and regulatory audits.
- Govern SAP data integrity – vendor master, info records, source lists, lead times and prices – and drive MRP-based, exception-driven buying.
- Own supplier contracts, NDAs, long-term agreements and commercial terms in coordination with Legal and Finance; manage commercial and contractual risk.
- Drive localisation, import substitution and dual sourcing programmes with Engineering and Quality approval.
- Support Business Development and Engineering at the enquiry and quotation stage with supply-base feasibility, target costing and should-cost inputs.
- Balance workload and priorities across the three specialist groups; ensure cross-training so that no category is exposed to single-person dependency.
- Build team capability – recruitment, training, KRA setting, performance review and succession planning for the sourcing team.
- Report category performance to management through defined KPIs and monthly operating reviews.
Authority
- Approve quote comparison statements and negotiation outcomes within the delegated authority matrix.
- Recommend supplier approval, re-rating and de-listing to the GM – Sourcing.
Category Knowledge Requirements
The Manager is expected to have command-level knowledge of all three categories and to be able to review, challenge and approve the technical and commercial work of each specialist group. The detailed technical scope of each category is defined in the respective Engineer / Senior Engineer job descriptions.
