Job summary

Larsen & Toubro (L&T) in Chennai, India, seeks a Senior Manager Strategic Sourcing, Project Management & Procurement to drive end-to-end procurement, supplier management and contract negotiations for major EPC and infrastructure programs.

The role partners with Project Management, Engineering, Operations, Finance and Business Leadership to align procurement strategies with project objectives, ensure on-time material availability and optimize total cost of ownership.

Qualifications

  • 12-18+ years of experience in Procurement, Strategic Sourcing, Supply Chain, and Project Procurement.
  • Minimum 5+ years in leadership roles.
  • Experience handling large-scale EPC, Manufacturing, Infrastructure, Oil & Gas, Energy, Renewable, or Industrial projects.
  • Proven success in managing high procurement spend portfolios and complex supplier networks.
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Supply Chain, Procurement, Commerce, or Business Administration; MBA/PGDM preferred.

Responsibilities

  • 1. Strategic Sourcing & Category Management: Develop and implement sourcing strategies for major spend categories.
  • 2. Project Procurement Management: Develop project procurement plans aligned with project schedules and milestones.
  • 3. Supplier Relationship Management (SRM): Identify, evaluate, qualify, and onboard strategic suppliers.
  • 4. Commercial Negotiations & Contract Management: Lead commercial negotiations and manage contract administration.
  • 5. Procurement Operations: Oversee RFQ, RFP, tendering, bid evaluation, and award processes.
  • 6. Spend Analytics & Cost Optimization: Utilize spend analytics and drive value engineering initiatives.
  • 7. Supply Chain & Logistics Coordination: Collaborate with logistics to optimize material movement.
  • 8. Stakeholder Management: Partner with PMs, Engineering, Operations, Finance and Quality teams.
  • 9. People Leadership: Lead procurement teams and develop talent.

Role & responsibilities

The Senior Manager Strategic Sourcing, Project Management & Procurement is responsible for

leading end-to-end procurement and sourcing strategies, project procurement execution, supplier

relationship management, contract negotiations, and supply chain optimization. The role ensures

timely availability of materials and services, cost competitiveness, risk mitigation, and alignment of

procurement activities with business and project objectives.

The position acts as a strategic partner to Project Management, Engineering, Operations, Finance,

and Business Leadership teams to drive commercial excellence and deliver organizational growth.

Preferred candidate profile
Education
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Supply Chain, Procurement, Commerce, or Business

Administration.

  • MBA / PGDM in Supply Chain Management, Operations, or Procurement preferred.
Experience
  • 12-18+ years of experience in Procurement, Strategic Sourcing, Supply Chain, and Project

Procurement.

  • Minimum 5+ years in leadership roles.

Key Responsibilities :
1. Strategic Sourcing & Category Management
  • Develop and implement sourcing strategies for major spend categories.
  • Analyze market trends, commodity movements, supplier capabilities, and industry benchmarks.
  • Identify cost-saving opportunities through strategic sourcing initiatives.
  • Drive supplier consolidation and vendor rationalization programs.
  • Develop long-term supplier partnerships and framework agreements.
  • Lead global and domestic sourcing initiatives.
  • Ensure procurement strategies support business expansion and operational objectives.
  • Drive total cost of ownership (TCO) approach in sourcing decisions.
2. Project Procurement Management
  • Develop project procurement plans aligned with project schedules and milestones.
  • Serve as a single point of contact between project teams and procurement organizations.
  • Lead procurement activities for EPC, CapEx, Brownfield, Greenfield, and operational projects.
  • Manage procurement schedules to support project execution timelines.
  • Coordinate with engineering teams for technical specifications and procurement packages.
  • Track procurement progress and highlight project risks.
  • Manage critical path items and supplier delivery commitments.
  • Support project reviews and executive reporting.

The project procurement leadership responsibilities are aligned with internal procurement management guidance describing procurement planning, coordination with project teams, schedule management, supplier liaison, and strategic sourcing support.

3. Supplier Relationship Management (SRM)
  • Identify, evaluate, qualify, and onboard strategic suppliers.
  • Drive supplier performance improvement initiatives.
  • Conduct supplier audits and capability assessments.
  • Establish supplier scorecards and KPI monitoring systems.
  • Manage supplier risk and business continuity planning.
  • Strengthen collaboration with key strategic partners.
  • Resolve supplier performance issues and contractual disputes.

Supplier qualification, onboarding, lifecycle management, and performance management are key elements highlighted in internal supplier management resources.

4. Commercial Negotiations & Contract Management
  • Lead commercial negotiations with suppliers and contractors.
  • Secure favorable pricing, payment, warranty, and delivery terms.
  • Ensure effective contract administration throughout project lifecycle.
  • Manage claims, change orders, variation orders, and dispute resolution.
  • Review legal and commercial risks before contract award.
  • Ensure compliance with company procurement policies and governance requirements.
5. Procurement Operations
  • Oversee RFQ, RFP, tendering, bid evaluation, and award processes.
  • Manage purchase order lifecycle from requisition through closure.
  • Monitor supplier deliveries, logistics coordination, and inventory requirements.
  • Ensure procurement process efficiency and cycle-time improvements.
  • Drive procurement automation and digital transformation initiatives.
  • Monitor procurement compliance and internal control systems.
6. Spend Analytics & Cost Optimization
  • Utilize spend analytics to identify procurement opportunities.
  • Analyze category spending trends and supplier concentration risks.
  • Develop procurement dashboards and management reports.
  • Drive annual savings targets and value engineering initiatives.

  • Manage transportation and distribution cost optimization initiatives.
