Role Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced AS400 COBOL Subject Matter Expert (SME) to lead technical initiatives, support legacy systems, and contribute to modernization projects. The ideal candidate will possess deep expertise in COBOL programming on the AS400 platform, strong analytical abilities, and the capability to extract and document complex business logic.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the design, development, and maintenance of COBOL programs on the AS400 platform.
• Analyze existing COBOL batch programs to extract business logic and document it in Business Requirement Documents (BRDs).
• Support modernization efforts, including migrating legacy AS400 systems to modern technology stacks (AI-driven efficiency preferred).
• Write and optimize complex SQL queries, stored procedures, and file-handling routines.
• Perform interactive and batch debugging to resolve issues efficiently.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support system enhancements and modernization.
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior developers.

Technical Skills (Must Have)

• COBOL400, ILE COBOL, CL400, ILE CL, SQL400
• Strong experience with DB2400 and IBM iSeries (AS400)
• Expertise in file handling, arrays, array search, and SORT file concepts
• Hands-on experience with interactive and batch debugging
• Solid understanding of relational data models and data flow across systems
• Proficiency with AS400 tools such as IBM ACS, SEU, and PDM

Good to Have

• Experience in application migration or modernization projects
• Familiarity with X-Analysis, Visual Studio IDE, and RDi
