Job summary

The Standard India is seeking a Software Engineer III focused on AI gateway and integration for our Data & AI Platform. You will own the AI gateway setup, MCP server onboarding, and gateway policy implementation to define enterprise integration patterns with tools like Atlassian, Azure DevOps, GitHub, Databricks, and Microsoft services.

This hybrid role requires on-site Bengaluru presence for key engagements, with remote flexibility based on business needs and team alignment.

Qualifications

• BE / B.Tech in Software Engineering, Computer Science or Information Systems.
• 6+ years backend engineering experience in Python and/or TypeScript.
• Strong API design skills (REST and/or gRPC) and OpenAPI specifications.

Responsibilities

• Configure and operate the AI/MCP gateway with routes, plugins, rate limiting, and access policies.
• Onboard API/MCP servers to the gateway including registration and policy attachment.
• Build and maintain the MCP registry for endpoint discovery and access.
• Develop custom API/MCP servers for specialized requirements and publish patterns.
• Implement OAuth2-based authentication and authorization for services or identities.
• Build backend services and APIs (Python/TypeScript) with versioned contracts.
• Automate contract testing and gateway config validation in CI/CD.
• Load test and optimize gateway performance for sub-second latency.
• Document onboarding runbooks for self-service MCP integration.

Software Engineer III — AI Gateway & Integration

Job Summary

The Standard India is seeking a Software Engineer III focused on AI gateway and integration engineering for our Data & AI Platform: Kong configuration, MCP server onboarding, registry management and access policy implementation.

In this role, you will own AI Gateway setup, MCP server onboarding and gateway policy implementation as we define the integration pattern for enterprise tools and data systems such as Atlassian, Azure DevOps, GitHub, Neo4j, SharePoint, Databricks and Microsoft services.

This role sits on The Standard's Data & AI Platform team, which owns the enterprise's shared data and AI foundation — governed once and consumed by many — built on Azure Databricks, Neo4j, Confluent Kafka, Anthropic and OpenAI models behind a governed gateway.

• Ability to work on-site in Bengaluru, India is a requirement of the role.*

Mode of Working:

This role follows a hybrid work model, with a primary base in Bengaluru. While on-site presence is essential for key engagements, flexibility is offered for remote work based on business needs and team alignment.

Key Responsibilities

• Configure and operate the AI/MCP gateway, including routes, plugins, rate limiting and access policies.
• Onboard API / MCP servers to the gateway: registration, credential scoping, policy attachment and lifecycle management.
• Build and maintain the tool/MCP registry so agents and applications discover and access approved endpoints.
• Build custom API / MCP servers for specialized requirements and publish patterns for enterprise consumption.
• Implement OAuth2-based authentication and authorization for services and agent identities, with security engineering.
• Build backend services and APIs (Python/TypeScript) that expose platform capabilities with versioned contracts.
• Automate contract testing and gateway configuration validation in CI/CD.
• Load test and optimize gateway and API performance for sub-second latency targets.
• Document onboarding runbooks so system owners self-serve their MCP integration.

Skills And Background You'll Need

Education

B.E. / B.Tech. degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science or Information Systems is required.

Experience

• Typically requires 6+ years of professional backend engineering experience in Python and/or TypeScript.
• Strong API design skills (REST and/or gRPC), including versioning, error handling and OpenAPI specifications.
• Experience configuring API management or gateway platforms such as Kong, Kong Konnect or Azure API Management.
• Experience implementing OAuth2-based identity and access policies for APIs.
• Contract testing experience and CI/CD proficiency with Git workflows (GitHub, Azure DevOps).
• Experience with Python API frameworks such as FastAPI, plus testing tools such as Pytest.

Preferred Experience

• REST API development, testing & integration experience.
• MCP (Model Context Protocol) exposure: building, integrating or onboarding MCP servers.
• Kubernetes/AKS and ArgoCD deployment experience.
• Event-driven integration (Kafka) and asynchronous API patterns.
• Load testing with JMeter or equivalent; Datadog or equivalent observability.
• Good to have Microsoft Certification - AZ-204.
