Job summary

The Standard India is seeking a Software Engineer III in Bengaluru to design and build scalable REST APIs and event-driven components. You will collaborate with product, data, and DevOps teams to deliver enterprise-grade services using Java, Spring Boot, and Confluent Platform within Azure-based environments.

You will work in a hybrid model, blending on-site engagements with remote coordination to enable robust API-first integrations across our insurance ecosystem and data partners.

Qualifications

• B.Tech / B.E. in software engineering, CS or IS required.
• 6+ years of related experience.
• On-site in Bengaluru, India is a requirement of the role.
• Hands-on experience designing and implementing REST APIs using Java and Spring Boot.
• Strong understanding of API design patterns, OpenAPI/Swagger, resiliency, security, and performance.
• Experience with Docker and Kubernetes / AKS in Azure environments.
• Experience with load testing REST APIs using tools like JMeter or Gatling.
• Experience with Azure, DevOps, GitHub, Maven, and CI/CD.

Software Engineer III - BenTech Integrations

Job Summary

The Standard is seeking a Software Engineer III with hands-on experience in Java, Spring Boot, REST API development, Confluent Platform (Apache Kafka), and event-driven architecture to support the bentech integrations strategy. This strategy is intended to elevate The Standard customers' overall digital experiences in enrollment, administration and claims through modern API-first and event-driven integration patterns that bridge The Standard's vast insurance ecosystem and data with customer Human Capital Management Systems, broker digital solutions and data intermediaries. In this role, you will collaborate closely with Product Owners, Product Analysts, Scrum Masters, Front-End Engineers, Software Developers in Test, Data Engineers, DevOps / Site Reliability Engineers, and Architects to build scalable, secure, and reliable enterprise-grade services. The ideal candidate will be an experienced engineer who can independently deliver features and enhancements, contribute to technical solution design, translate business requirements into application functionality, and work effectively within an Agile delivery team. As a Software Engineer III, you will develop and maintain scalable and reliable REST APIs, services, and event-driven components that deliver digital capabilities to customers. You will apply engineering best practices such as SOLID principles, OpenAPI-driven design, secure integration patterns, automated testing, and performance-aware development across the software development life cycle. This role should be comfortable working within Azure DevOps, GitHub, containerized environments, and CI/CD-enabled delivery models, while partnering with senior engineers and architects on broader solution and platform decisions.

Mode of Working

This role follows a hybrid work model, with a primary base in Bengaluru. While on-site presence is essential for key engagements, flexibility is offered for remote work based on business needs and team alignment.

Skills And Background You’ll Need

Education: B.Tech / B.E. in software engineering, Computer Science or Information Systems, or a related field is required.

Experience: 6+ years of related experience.

• Hands-on experience designing and implementing enterprise-grade REST APIs using Java and Spring Boot
• Strong understanding of API design patterns, OpenAPI/Swagger specifications, resiliency, security, performance optimization, and production-grade service development
• Experience with containerized application development using Docker and Kubernetes / AKS in Azure-based environments
• Experience in load testing REST API applications with tools like Apache JMeter, SOAPUI, or Scala/Gatling scripting
• Experience integrating applications with databases, including SQL and NoSQL data repositories
• Experience developing and implementing application solutions on Microsoft Azure, with practical awareness of Azure-native services used by modern API platforms
• Working knowledge of Azure DevOps, GitHub, Maven, and CI/CD-enabled delivery practices
• Experience working within an Agile delivery / DevOps methodology to deliver production-ready software in iterative sprints
• Strong problem-solving, analytical, communication, collaboration, and fast-learning abilities
• Experience integrating APIs through gateway and management platforms such as Kong / Kong Konnect preferred
• Experience with event-driven publish-subscribe solution patterns using Apache Kafka, Azure Event Hub, or similar technologies
• Working knowledge of Confluent Platform components, including Kafka brokers/clusters, Schema Registry, Kafka Connect, connector development, and Apache Flink concepts such as statements and UDFs preferred
• Ability to understand frontend integration patterns and work effectively with frontend engineers to connect user experiences with backend APIs and services
• Ability to partner with Product Owners and business stakeholders to understand requirements and convert them into reliable application functionality
• Previous experience in a GCC environment and working across distributed teams/time zones is highly preferred.
