About the Team
The Monetization Platforms department is one of the strategic units within Corporate IT and is responsible for Design, development & management of Billing, Licensing and Subscription Solutions as three central services across the ZEISS Group worldwide.
Your Role
As a Software Engineer (Global Role) with 2-7 years, you are responsible for the Client development using C++ for Licensing platform at Zeiss.
Must-Have Skills (Non-Negotiable):
- Several years of hands‑on experience in modern C++ development (e.g. and above) in a professional software product environment.
- Proven track record in library / SDK development for external consumers (e.g. product teams or external customers), including API design, versioning, and backward compatibility.
- Strong experience developing and troubleshooting C++ libraries on Windows and Linux (toolchains, compilers, runtime specifics).
- Experience integrating native C++ libraries into larger application landscapes (desktop applications, services, tools).
- Strong focus on code quality, maintainability and robustness (clean architecture, defensive programming, clear interfaces).
- Experience working in agile development teams (Scrum/Kanban), using Git‑based workflows and peer reviews.
Core Technical Requirements:
- Advanced proficiency in C++ including object‑oriented design, templates, and memory management.
- Experience building and delivering reusable libraries / SDKs (packaging, distribution, documentation for integrators) for Windows and Linux environments.
- Familiarity with common build systems and toolchains on Windows and Linux (e.g. CMake, MSVC, GCC/Clang).
- Basic to intermediate knowledge of C# / .NET and interop between native and managed code is highly desirable.
- Experience with Azure DevOps build pipelines for compilation, packaging, and artifact publishing.
- Hands‑on experience with automated testing (unit tests, component tests, mocking frameworks, test automation in the CI pipeline).
- Good understanding of version control with Git (branching strategies, pull requests, code reviews).
Optional but beneficial:
- Experience with WPF and integration of client components into WPF applications.
Broader Responsibilities the Candidate Will Own:
- End-to-end ownership of library lifecycle on Windows and Linux: from implementation and testing to documentation, releases, and maintenance.
- Collaboration with architects and backend engineers to ensure seamless integration between client components, licensing backends, and customer‑facing tools.
- Close collaboration with teams building end‑customer-installed software to ensure easy integration and intuitive use of licensing components.
- Contribution to simple and intuitive user flows where client components are exposed in UI (e.g. activation dialogs, license status views) in cooperation with UI teams.
- Continuous improvement of build, test, and release pipelines in Azure DevOps for cross‑platform client libraries.
- Contribution to coding guidelines, best practices, and technical documentation to support integrating development teams.
- Participation in incident analysis and defect resolution, including debugging issues in client integrations and supporting operations where needed.
Basic Requirements:
- University degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a comparable qualification.
- years of professional experience in C++ software development, preferably with a focus on libraries or SDKs.
- Practical experience developing and debugging C++ software on both Windows and Linux.
- Experience working in international, cross‑functional teams within a corporate IT or product development environment.
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills with a structured and reliable working style.
- Good communication skills in English, both written and spoken.
- Solid understanding of: Modern C++ development practices, including memory management, concurrency basics, and error handling.
- API and library design principles, including encapsulation, stability, and ease of integration for consuming teams.
- Cross‑platform development aspects for Windows and Linux (build configurations, dependencies, toolchains).
- Software build and release processes using Azure DevOps (pipelines, artifacts, basic YAML configurations).
- Automated testing concepts and their importance for reusable components (unit, integration, regression testing).
- Secure and robust coding principles relevant for components used in customer‑facing ZEISS products.
- Working in a regulated enterprise environment, including documentation, traceability, and collaboration with multiple stakeholders.
- Basic understanding of software licensing models and implementation patterns is a plus.
