Software Development Engineer III – Urban Company

We invite you to join Urban Company, a technology platform providing customers a variety of home services such as beauty treatments, haircuts, massage therapy, cleaning, plumbing, carpentry, appliance repair, and painting, all delivered in the comfort of their homes at convenient times.

About the Role & Team

Join our Customer Growth team to build the tech stack for:

Customer acquisition and retention.
Booking journey, cataloguing, and pricing.
Marketing, personalization, and recommendations.

In five years, we will create two new avenues for Urban Company, significantly impacting our growth.

Responsibilities

Tech leadership: Define tech roadmaps and build systems for long‑term reliability and scalability, partnering with product to discover right problems and solutions.
System ownership: Design and evolve services and features with zero‑downtime and uptime above 99.99%.
Delivery excellence: Lead a quarterly long project with 1–2 team members, delivering high quality and accurate outcomes.
Initiatives: Collaborate with other SDE‑3s on organizational tech culture, platforms, and engineering principles.

What we need

Passionate about achieving goals and delivering impact.
A system thinker—designing with purpose, modeling domains well, and possessing expertise in HLD/LLD.
Experience designing systems across multiple microservices, deep understanding of async architecture, NFRs, system performance, and database optimizations.
5+ years of backend engineering experience with a strong command of large‑scale systems.
Comfortable working in a high‑ownership, work‑from‑office setup.

Good to Have

Background in data‑driven systems, personalization engines, or cost‑optimized architectures.
Exposure to GenAI, AR/VR, or real‑time customer engagement systems.
