Customers use our platform to book services such as beauty treatments, haircuts, massage therapy, cleaning, plumbing, carpentry, appliance repair, painting, etc., all delivered in the comfort of their home and at a time of their choosing. Urban Company started as UrbanClap in November 2014, when its founders, Abhiraj, Raghav, and Varun, realized that the home services industry was predominantly unorganized, fragmented, and offline. Customers found it challenging to avail quality services conveniently, and service professionals were struggling to make ends meet, having to rely upon several middlemen, contractors, and local aggregators. The founders felt that the industry was ripe for disruption, and launched Urban Company, with three key principles in mind -

About the Role & Team

Join our Customer Growth team, focused on building the tech stack for:

• Customer acquisition and retention.
• Booking journey, cataloging, and pricing.
• Marketing, personalization, and recommendations.

We are looking to grow a team that will be working towards building two new avenues for UC which will significantly impact UCs growth in the next 5 years.

Responsibilities

As an SDE-3, you’ll be the technical owner for one core area and correspondence systems. Your role will span:

• Tech leadership: Do vision setting of owned tech systems by defining tech roadmaps and building systems toward long-term reliability and scalability, as well as partner with products to discover right problems and long-term tech solutions to deliver impact.
• System ownership: Design and evolve services and features with zero-downtime & uptime upward of 99.99%.
• Delivery excellence: Able to drive a quarter long project with 1-2 team members with high quality and delivery accuracy.
• Initiatives: Partner with other SDE-3s on org-level tech culture, platforms, and engineering principles.

What we need

• Are passionate to achieving your goals and delivering impact
• Are a system thinker — you design with purpose, model domains well, and expertise in HLD/LLD.
• Have experience to design systems across multiple micro services, deep understanding of async architecture, NFRs, system performance, and database optimizations.
• Have 5+ years of backend engineering experience with strong command on large-scale systems
• Are comfortable working in a high-ownership, work from office setup

Good to Have

• Background in data-driven systems, personalization engines, or cost-optimized architectures
• Exposure to GenAI, AR/VR, or real-time customer engagement systems
