Overview
A Mechatronics Engineer must have solid technical skills in the fields of mechanics, electronics, electrical and computer science. The role involves leading design of complex mechatronic systems and integrating motion solutions for industrial machines.
Responsibilities
- System Architecture & Mechatronic Design: Lead design of complex mechatronic systems involving BLDC, stepper, and servo motors; architect integrated motion systems combining sensors, actuators, drives, and controllers for industrial machines.
- Motor Control, Drives & Embedded Software: Specify and optimize DC motor drives and actuator systems for efficiency, thermal performance, and precision; competence in the use and management of sensors and actuators, PLCs, and embedded systems; develop and tune motion‑control algorithms, PID/FOC loops, and embedded software (C/C++/Python).
- Modeling, Simulation & Prototyping: Use MATLAB/Simulink and CAE tools to model dynamics, NVH, thermal behavior, and system performance; lead rapid prototyping, testing, root‑cause analysis, and supplier coordination for custom components.
- Gear Train & Transmission Design: Design spur, helical, planetary, and harmonic gear systems for motor‑driven mechanisms; perform gear macro/micro geometry design, backlash/tolerance analysis, and strength/life calculations using AGMA/ISO standards; knowledge of ball screw, lead screw and mechanisms for rotary to linear conversion; collaborate with hydraulic experts to integrate electronics with actuator systems.
- Motion System Integration: Select and size motors, gearboxes, encoders/resolvers, brakes, and drives using load, inertia, and duty‑cycle analysis; define mechanical requirements, architecture, and detailed designs for precision motion assemblies; understand automatic control system principles and modeling.
- Testing, Validation & Reliability: Conduct bench testing, torque‑speed characterization, NVH validation, and system debugging; perform DFMEA, verification planning, design validation, and implement corrective actions.
- Manufacturing & DFM/DFA: Apply DFM/DFA principles and select appropriate materials and processes for gears, shafts, housings, and transmission components.
- Cross‑Functional Collaboration & Compliance: Work closely with electronics, firmware, mechanical, and manufacturing teams; ensure compliance with industry safety and regulatory standards (UL, CSA, FM, ISO, IEC, NEC, FDA); communicate design decisions, risks, and results to global stakeholders.
