Job summary

Motion Drivetronics in Navi Mumbai seeks a skilled motor design engineer to drive new motor products from concept through detailed engineering. You will perform electromagnetic simulations, mechanical design with CAD tools, and develop prototypes for testing and validation.

You'll create BOMs and GD&T, analyze test data, and iterate designs for mass production while ensuring compliance with IEC, NEMA, UL and ISO standards. Strong manufacturing collaboration is essential.

Qualifications

• Experience in motor design and product development.
• Proficiency with design for manufacture (DFM) and DFMEA principles.
• Familiarity with IEC, NEMA, ISO, AGMA and UL standards.
• Hands-on testing with dynamometers, power analyzers, oscilloscopes or DAQ systems.
• Prior product-from-concept-to-mass-production exposure.

Job description

Role & responsibilities

• Design and develop new motor products, including electromagnetic, mechanical, and thermal design, from initial concept through detailed engineering drawings.
• Perform electromagnetic simulations and calculations (e.g., using tools like ANSYS Maxwell, Motor-CAD) Conduct mechanical design of motor components (rotor, stator, shaft, bearings, housing, windings) using CAD tools (SolidWorks, AutoCad).
• Knowledge of winding design, magnet selection (rare earth/ferrite), and thermal management. Create and maintain BOMs, engineering drawings, tolerances, and design specifications (GD&T).
• Develop prototypes and coordinate build, testing, and validation of new motor designs.
• Analyze test data (performance, thermal, vibration, noise, durability) and iterate designs to meet specifications. Collaborate with manufacturing/process engineers to ensure designs are optimized for production (DFM/DFA).
• Ensure designs comply with relevant industry standard (IEC, NEMA, UL, ISO, etc.) and safety/regulatory requirements.
• Creating reports of tolerance stack-up analysis, and DFM/DFA principles.
• Stay current with emerging motor technologies, materials, and manufacturing techniques.
• Manage or contribute to new product development (NPD) timelines, milestones, and deliverables.

Preferred candidate profile

Required Skills and Competencies: Strong understanding of electric motor theory (BLDC, PMSM, stepper motor control) and mechanical gear systems.
Familiarity with CAD (for understanding designs) and basic FEA/simulation concepts is a plus.
Hands-on experience with test equipment: dynamometers, power analyzers, oscilloscopes, DAQ systems.
Experience with Six Sigma/DFMEA/FMEA methodologies.
Prior experience taking a product from concept to mass production.
Hands-on experience with inspection tools and shop-floor processes.
Knowledge of relevant industry standards (IEC, NEMA, ISO, AGMA, UL).
