Design mechanical systems, sensor mounts, and electronics housings for autonomous marine and ground robots. Integrate actuators, sensors, wiring, and embedded boards, and support fabrication, prototyping, and field testing from CAD through real-world deployment.
Key Responsibilities
- Design mechanical linkages, brackets, couplings, and mechanisms for actuators controlling throttle, shift, steering, and other vehicle functions
- Design and develop sensor masts and mounting structures for radar, cameras, lidar, antennas, and GNSS while considering load, wind, vibration, and field-of-view requirements
- Design electronics enclosures, equipment housings, cable glands, and weatherproofing solutions for marine and outdoor environments
- Carry out fabrication and assembly activities including cutting, drilling, sheet-metal work, welding coordination, machining coordination, and 3D printing
- Select suitable materials, fasteners, and corrosion-protection methods for marine and outdoor applications
- Perform basic engineering calculations involving torque, force, stress, tolerances, and mechanical loads, and use FEA where required
- Prepare manufacturing drawings with GD&T and coordinate with fabricators and machine shops
- Select, size, install, and integrate actuators including stepper motors, servo motors, BLDC motors, DC motors, linear actuators, and gearboxes
- Install and wire sensors, computing systems, and power systems while developing wiring harnesses and power distribution
- Interface microcontrollers and embedded boards with onboard computers using CAN, RS-485, UART, I2C, SPI, and Ethernet
- Implement manual override, emergency stop, and failsafe mechanisms for autonomous robotic systems
- Support system integration, troubleshooting, validation, and field testing of autonomous marine and ground robotic platforms
- Collaborate with mechanical, electrical, embedded, and robotics engineers to integrate complete electromechanical systems
