Job summary

Optum India seeks an experienced software architect/engineer to design and scale voice/IVR and conversational AI systems on AWS using LLM-based engines. You will lead development of intent detection, backend services and APIs, and drive architecture decisions for high availability and cost efficiency.

Responsibilities include end-to-end IVR design, telemetry via CloudWatch, and mentoring of junior engineers, while collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver robust, distributed solutions.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in CS, Engineering, or related field.
• 8+ years of software engineering experience with TypeScript/JavaScript.
• Hands-on experience building LLM-based intent engines using AWS Bedrock.
• Deep experience with AWS services: Lambda, API Gateway, DynamoDB, S3, SQS, CloudWatch.
• Experience in conversational AI, IVR systems and AWS Lex.
• Experience designing scalable, event-driven microservices architectures.
• CI/CD and DevOps practices.
• Strong leadership, mentoring and communication skills.

• Lead cloud architecture decisions ensuring high availability, scalability, and cost optimization.
• Monitor applications using AWS CloudWatch; create dashboards, alerts, and log analysis for proactive issue resolution.
• Integrate IVR systems with telephony platforms and enterprise systems.
• Optimize system performance for latency, accuracy, and reliability in real-time voice interactions.
• Troubleshoot production issues, perform root cause analysis, and implement long-term fixes.
• Mentor junior engineers and contribute to design reviews, best practices, and DevOps processes.
• Comply with employment policies and directives as applicable by the company.

Primary Responsibilities

• Design and architect scalable voice/IVR and conversational AI systems using AWS and LLM-based intent engines

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field
• 8+ years of software engineering experience with solid TypeScript/JavaScript expertise
• Hands-on experience building LLM-based intent engines using AWS Bedrock or similar platforms
• Deep experience with AWS services (Lambda, API Gateway, DynamoDB, S3, SQS, CloudWatch)
• Solid experience in conversational AI, IVR systems, and AWS Lex (or equivalent)
• Experience designing scalable, event-driven, microservices-based architectures
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices
• Expertise in monitoring, logging, and observability using AWS CloudWatch
• Solid understanding of API design, system integration, and cloud-native development
• Proven ability to troubleshoot complex distributed systems
• Demonstrated solid leadership, communication, and mentoring skills
