Job summary

Optum, part of UnitedHealth Group, is seeking a senior developer to design and build scalable voice and IVR solutions using TypeScript, AWS Lex, and modern AI models. You will create end-to-end voice experiences, integrate with telephony platforms, and optimize performance while collaborating with product, UX, and AI teams.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of software development with TypeScript/JavaScript.
• Hands-on experience with AWS Lex, Lambda, API Gateway and DynamoDB.
• Experience building conversational AI/IVR systems and integrating with telephony platforms.
• Experience with LLMs (AWS Bedrock, OpenAI, Azure OpenAI) for intent detection and conversational AI.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop scalable voice/IVR apps using TypeScript, AWS Lex, and LLMs.
• Implement intelligent intent detection and conversational flows using LLMs to enhance Lex capabilities.
• Build backend services and APIs using AWS (Lambda, API Gateway, DynamoDB).
• Integrate IVR systems with telephony platforms and enterprise applications.
• Develop end-to-end voice solutions including routing, prompts, and AI-driven responses.
• Optimize voice interactions for accuracy, latency, and user experience.
• Monitor, troubleshoot, and improve production IVR/AI systems.
• Collaborate with product, UX, and data/AI teams to deliver conversational AI solutions.
• Write clean, testable, and maintainable code following best practices.
• Participate in code reviews, agile processes, and continuous improvement.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Design and develop scalable voice/IVR applications using TypeScript, AWS Lex, and LLM-based AI
• Implement intelligent intent detection and conversational flows using LLMs to enhance Lex capabilities
• Build backend services and APIs using AWS (Lambda, API Gateway, DynamoDB)
• Integrate IVR systems with telephony platforms and enterprise applications
• Develop end-to-end voice solutions including call routing, prompts, fallback handling, and AI-driven responses
• Optimize voice interactions for accuracy, latency, and user experience
• Monitor, troubleshoot, and improve production IVR/AI systems
• Collaborate with product, UX, and data/AI teams to deliver conversational AI solutions
• Write clean, testable, and maintainable code following best practices
• Participate in code reviews, agile processes, and continuous improvement

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field
• 5+ years of software development experience with solid TypeScript/JavaScript skills
• Hands-on experience with AWS services (Lex, Lambda, API Gateway, DynamoDB)
• Experience building conversational AI/IVR systems and integrating with telephony platforms
• Experience with LLMs (AWS Bedrock, OpenAI, Azure OpenAI) for intent detection and conversational AI
• Experience with cloud-native application development and deployment on AWS
• Knowledge of debugging, performance optimization, and system reliability
• Solid understanding of RESTful APIs and microservices architecture
• Familiarity with Amazon Bedrock for building, deploying, and scaling generative AI applications
• Proficiency with Git and CI/CD practices
• Demonstrated solid problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills
