Job summary

American Express Global Business Travel in Bengaluru seeks a Senior Engineer I to lead a team of engineers, shaping backend and frontend systems for billing, invoicing, and reconciliation across a global travel business. You'll design, implement, and scale cloud-native services on AWS and Kubernetes, mentor engineers, review code, and drive engineering standards while collaborating with product partners.

Location is Bangalore; shifts include 2nd shift, and the role offers flexible benefits,

Qualifications

• 10+ years IT experience with 5+ years Java experience.
• 7+ years architecture and design of distributed applications.
• Willing to work in 2nd shifts (3:00 PM IST to 12:00 AM IST) and weekends as needed.
• Willing to work from Bangalore office minimum 3 days a week.
• Experience delivering projects using Agile methodology and value-driven sprints.
• Experience leading contractors/offshore teams and collaborating with business partners.
• Experience leading production support teams ensuring quality and compliance.

Responsibilities

• Lead and mentor a team of engineers, setting technical direction and reviewing code and design.
• Design, code, and implement backend solutions using Java and Spring Boot for high-volume billing and reconciliation workflows.
• Build and maintain front-end interfaces and internal tools using React JS.
• Architect and deploy cloud-native services on AWS and Kubernetes.
• Estimate technical effort, create roadmaps, assess risks and dependencies.
• Resolve complex technical and production issues across the platform.
• Promote engineering design guidelines, coding standards, and best practices.
• Collaborate with product managers, engineers, and partners including code/design reviews.
• Experiment with emerging technologies, including AI for automation and data processing.

Senior Engineer I

What You'll Do

• Lead, mentor, and grow a team of engineers, setting technical direction and reviewing code and design
• Design, code, and implement backend solutions from concept to final hand-off, using Java and Spring Boot for high-volume billing and reconciliation workflows
• Build and maintain front‑end interfaces and internal tools using React JS
• Architect and deploy cloud‑native services on AWS and Kubernetes
• Estimate technical effort, work breakdown structure, risks, and dependencies for your team's roadmap
• Analyze and resolve complex technical and production issues across the platform
• Establish and promote engineering design guidelines, coding standards, and best practices
• Collaborate with product managers, engineers, and other partners, including code and design reviews
• Experiment with new and emerging technologies, including applying AI to improve automation, data processing, and engineering productivity

What We’re Looking For

• Minimum 10 years of professional IT experience with 5+ years of relevant experience in Java - OOPs, Design patterns, Collections, Streams, and Multithreading.
• Must have 7+ years of hands‑on experience in architecture and design of distributed applications.
• Must be willing and able to work in 2nd shifts (3:00 PM IST to 12:00 AM IST) and occasional weekends as required.
• Must be willing to work from Bangalore office location minimum 3 days in a week.
• Should have solid experience in delivering projects using agile methodology, be a strong believer in adding incremental value to business in short sprints.
• Should have strong experience in leading a team of contractors, offshore teams, and employees to deliver the technical solutions collaborating with business partners.
• Should have strong experience in managing and leading product or platform production support teams ensuring quality and adherence to technical, security, and compliance standards.
• Proficient in ReactJS – including hooks, components, and state management libraries like Redux.
• Experience with React libraries and frameworks such as React Router, React Bootstrap.
• Proficiency in working with any Relational Database Management Systems (RDBMS) – Writing complex queries, PL/SQL, Stored Procedures, Functions
• Experience in creating REST API specification documents using OpenAPI.
• Proficient in Rest API, Spring boot
• Good knowledge of Microservice Architecture
