Job description

We're looking for a Senior Shopify Developer to lead the design and delivery of high-quality Shopify solutions from public apps distributed on the Shopify App Store to bespoke custom apps built for individual merchants. You'll own technical decisions end to end, mentor other developers, and work closely with product, design, and clients to turn requirements into robust, scalable, well-tested code. This role is a strong fit for someone who combines deep Shopify platform expertise with modern front-end skills (React and Alpine.js) and communicates clearly with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

What You'll Do:

Architect, build, and ship public Shopify apps (App Store listings) and custom/private apps for specific merchants. Develop performant, accessible storefront experiences and app UIs using React and Alpine.js. Build and consume Shopify's Admin API, Storefront API, and GraphQL endpoints, including webhooks, OAuth flows, and billing APIs. Extend the platform with Shopify Functions, checkout extensions, and theme app extensions. Develop and customize Online Store 2.0 themes using Liquid, sections, and metafields. Own the full lifecycle of features: technical design, estimation, implementation, code review, testing, deployment, and monitoring. Optimize for performance, reliability, and security across storefronts and apps. Mentor mid- and junior-level developers and set standards for code quality and best practices. Collaborate with product managers, designers, and clients to scope work and translate requirements into technical solutions. Troubleshoot production issues and maintain existing apps and integrations.

Required Qualifications

5+ years of professional software development experience, with 3+ years focused on Shopify.

Proven track record building and launching public apps on the Shopify App Store. Hands-on experience developing custom/private apps for merchants.

Strong proficiency with React and Alpine.js, plus solid avaJavaScript/TypeScript fundamentals. Deep knowledge of the Shopify ecosystem: Liquid, Admin & Storefront APIs, GraphQL, webhooks, OAuth, app billing, and metafields. Experience with Node.js and building/maintaining backend services and APIs. Familiarity with the Shopify CLI, app scaffolding, and modern deployment workflows. Comfortable with Git and collaborative version control practices. Excellent written and verbal communication skills able to explain technical trade-offs clearly, document decisions, and collaborate across teams and time zones. Nice to Have Experience with Shopify Plus, checkout extensibility, and scripts. Knowledge of the Polaris design system and App Bridge. Familiarity with Hydrogen and Oxygen for headless commerce. Experience integrating third-party services (payments, ERPs, CRMs, marketing tools). CI/CD, automated testing, and performance monitoring experience. Prior work in an agency or multi-client environment.
